Hôm 7/5/2008, id Software bất ngờ loan tin thông báo phiên bản Doom 4 hiện đang trong giai đoạn thực hiện và hãng cần tuyển "nhân tài" cho dự án này. Một cách quảng báo đầy phá cách, không cần những banner quảng cáo màu mè hay những bài lăng xê trên các tạp chí về game. Với id Software, đó không khác gì một mẫu quảng cáo tuyển nhân sự.

id Software cũng xác nhận sẽ tự tay thực hiện phiên bản thứ 4 của dòng game bắn súng gạo cội Doom, và điều này có nghĩa là hãng đang chạy song song 2 dự án lớn. Dự án còn lại là trò chơi đua xe có kết hợp các pha hành động và bắn súng Rage dành cho 3 hệ máy PC, PS3 và Xbox 360.

Tính đến thời điểm này, Doom 3 - phiên bản mới đây nhất của dòng trò chơi bắn súng Doom, đã có mặt hơn 4 năm. Nó vẫn được xem là một tựa game có ảnh hưởng nhất của mọi thời đại. Nếu so với Counter-Strike, Doom (cũng như Doom 3) là một tượng đài khó lòng đốn ngã. Và sức hấp dẫn của Doom 3 còn được khẳng định khi chưa đầy một năm sau ngày phát hành phiên bản cho hệ PC (3/8/2004), id Software quyết định tung ra phiên bản cho hệ Xbox (3/4/2005).

Tuy nhiên, thông tin về hệ máy đối với phiên bản Doom 4 vẫn còn là ẩn số bởi hầu hết quan chức của id Software đều trả lời báo chí một cách đầy thận trọng, đại loại như hãy đợi đến họp báo chính thức sẽ rõ. Không biết đó có phải là dụng ý của id Software không, bởi nhiều người cho rằng, nếu soi kỹ vào các yêu cầu công việc trong mẫu quảng cáo "chiêu hiền đãi sĩ" thì bạn có thể quả quyết rằng Doom 4 sẽ có mặt trên Xbox 360, PS3 và cả PC.

Pros: Outstanding atmosphere, graphics, weaponry, story

Cons: Multiplayer required a little TLC from its dedicated fans.

I am a Doom addict. I have explored all aspects of Doom gameplay and enjoyed every moment of it. All 1k plus hours of playing.

I was sucked into the outstanding story and great visual effects of the game from the getgo. It plays out intensely from beginning to end and never lets up on the scares. Definitely does the series some good.

The multiplayer takes some getting used to at first and even then you might still suck at it. It has a harsh learning curve, but action is intense. It always forces you to play your best and a great emphasis is put on making and avoiding shots. Pros at the game will be on your neck if you don't tighten up your game.

Only a few maps, but I don't mind, the ones available are kicka**. That doesn't acount for the many mods available that I play on.

All and all the MP isn't for everyone. But for us hardcore players, it is home.

If you have your doubts, I implore you go for it. It is truly a ride no one should miss. take it this way; it is by far my favorite game to date.

I don't write bad reviews if I don't like something I won't write a review. I am happy however to review something I love! I love Doom 3 it's great fun when you have free time it's worth checking out, the game itself I beat in little time but the online gaming totally rule and you never get bored of it even tho the maps are getting old.

First off I hate anything that scares me in games, I absolutely cannot play FEAR anymore lol. This game my god graphics SUCK, they do admit it allready. Had this on Medium and could barely run, I have a AMD 64, 3200 , 512MB Ram, GeForceFX 5500. When I ran it, it sucked. Now I have 1GB Ram, GeForce 6600 256MB and I run Quake 4 on High, still only can run Doom 3 on Medium and Quake 4 is soooooo much better.

When you turn a corner you know a zombie will be there, hear noises and there is a door in front of you yes a zombie will bust down the door, this game is far too predictable even for someone who can't stand scary games will not be scared by this game. If you have a super gaming rig don't bother you can't run it, get Quake 4 it is funner less predictable and it has a gun with a built in flashlight. Looks much better too

I enjoy playing this game. it has some entertaining factor if you play it in a dark room with no background noise going on it can be a bit frigtning then.

Pros: Almsot everything about the game, definitley a scare with the lights off and surround sound on!

Cons: They should really add a multiplayer with 4 players and bots

The game was everything I expected it to be. The game is really spooky, and the enviroment is scary as hell. With new innovations in graphics, the game is really realistic. This title is definitley better than all the other Doom games. The thing they need to add to it was a multiplayer. I know i has the online, but they should really add the multiplayer to it. It has a great story, it isn't something your going to beat on the first day unless your really really experienced, and it's a huge challenge. You should really go pick it up thought, this is one HELL of a game! HAVE FUN!

Pros: excellent graphics, sound, scary.

Cons: video card is stressed to the limit (see below)

Very good game, but I haven't been able to play it much! The graphics are SO good, with all the video options on, if you do not have a primo video system with the most video RAM you can get, this game will overheat the video card and your system will lock up!

I'm in the process of adding extra fans to my box to keep the damn thing cool. Temperature sensors show it jumping to 90 degrees celcius before it locks up.

If you are a power gamer, and like previous dooms, you need to see this game. If you don't have an A1 primo system and aren't on top of technology, then you will just be wasting your money.

I have two systems I tried this game on:
(1) 3.4 GHz P4 w/ 1 GB RAM, ATI 9700 w/128 MB video RAM: Locks up after playing only about five minutes. Unable to set the game settings to any quality higher than Medium.
(2) 2.0 GHz P4 w/ 512 MB RAM, 64 MB ATI video card: Can only set the game video quality to the lowest setting. Locks up after playing for about 7 minutes.

WARNING! You MUST have extra video cooling equipment to play this game!!!

I'm still jazzed about it, though. I'm waiting for additional software and hardware fixes to cool the system before playing again.

Doom 3 less than impressive

Pros: graphics.

Cons: lacks the addiction factor, nothing new game wise. Lacks the features, I'm used to from other FPS such as: alternate fire, voice communications, no sniper rifle. Multiplayer for 4 players only, not many maps.

Too dark, not very emmersive, would have given anything for a roll of duct tape to wrap the flashlight and the shotgun together. Zombie attack are slow, becomes boring, game should come with head trauma warning, you will probably fall asleep and hit your forehead on the keyboard. The hype will carry this game only so far, word of mouth will take it to the clearance bin. Yes it is pretty, but pretty does not justify the $50 it costs. Lacks all the features that were introduced by other shooters while this game was being made. Do not rely on magazine reviews, they all point out the game shortcommings, but still give it a good rating. Playing this game was like doing homework, I forced myself to do it. Talk to your local game geek, they know what you like. This game plays a lot like system shock 2, just not as scary.

Don't expect anything new here. Same old game, enter room, jump from being scared by monster, shoot everything that moves, move to next room...

Nothing seems very original here, no tricks, traps or ways to outsmart the creatures. Just the same old trapped in a corridor, shoot till it dies action.

Having to switch from flashlight to gun constantly is pretty sad. As if the light would not be on his gun or helmet if the environment is really that dark.
