    DONNIE DARKO RISETH AGAIN

By Squishy  Feb 24, 2005 | 9 out of 15 found this Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut (2004) review helpful

Pros: an addition to the classic, not too much to make it a new movie, enough to make it like a new experience

Cons: maybe trying to hard to draw interest, if people don't like it, their loss

this film has been an awesome film since its making. to hear they were coming out with a director's cut had me itching with intrigue. it was awesome to find out that after all these years there was going to be an expansion on one of my favs. i lo...oked forward to this a long time and was not disappointed at all. i love this film and here was a chance to love it even more. BE AFRAID OF THE DARK

By KEVIN LUCERO LESS  Apr 11, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut (2004) review helpful

    Pros: STORY AND DIRECTING

    Cons: THE DIRECTORS CUT

It is so rare to see a film that captures the true essence of the teen loner. We can look to "Rebel Without A Cause" 1955 and films like this, to give us an oculus to the path walked alone by the ones who give their lives for the one they l...ove. Donnie Darko is not a Horror story, as advertised, but rather a love story of a boy who happens to know more than the others around him. This tale could be a metaphore for anyone who has taken the stand for love and truth, against the apathy of the society of the weak. Director Richard Kelly is spot on with his camera. In the Mise En Scene we see the use of Oblique Angles (change), High Angle (loss of power) and a communion of narrative montage editing that connects concepts with cinematic awe. Thematic Montage editing with 1988 music selections only help to connect the audience with this fantastic film. Kevin Lucero Less - Professor of Cinema, Tucson Museum of Art, Art School. Donnie - The Director's Cut

By Catora L  Mar 10, 2005 | 0 out of 1 found this Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut (2004) review helpful

Pros: Added Special Features, Deleted Scenes, Same inspirational life-altering movie.

Cons: The Movie Cover is not nearly as amazing as the original.

Donnie Darko, perhaps one of the most amazing movies of our time has been re-released in the director's cut form ~ filled with Richard Kelly's footnotes on the movie, and all sorts of special features.

Sold my original copy for the directors cut

By Stephen Hagdorn  Mar 8, 2005 | 0 out of 2 found this Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut (2004) review helpful

    Pros: great psych flick

Cons: a few bad actors (none were big roles anyways)

I just found out about this movie about a year and a half ago. I'm a big fan of psych movies (Fight Club, Clockwork Orange, Natural Born Killers). This is an excellent movie with some great 80's music (big fan of Tears for Fears). Speaking of... music, I loved the cover of TFF's "Mad World." Check out the original version by TFF on the album The Hurting...real good cd, depressing but good! Anyways, I can't wait till I get my directors cut of the movie...I sold my original to get this version. Read more Less
