Pro Reviews: Don't Let the Bastards Grind You Down (D.L.T.B.G.Y.D.)

  • All Music Guide

The Toasters are another old-school ska band who haven't let the trendiness of punk infiltrate their sound. In fact, punk is one of the few rock genres not explored on Don't Let the Bastards Grind You Down. Seventeen tracks gives the band full room to work out their fondness for jazz and early rock and roll. The Toasters seem to realize that, without variety, ska is doomed to mediocre rehashings of the same jagged rhythms, and D.L.T.B.G.Y.D. manages to run well over an hour without sounding tired. Not only one of the best albums of this band's career, but some of the best third-wave ska ever released.
