    Real Hip Hop

This was a solid album which was comprised of excellent production and delivery, and Joe's incredible skills on the mic. It is great for Hip Hop to have people who can actually rhyme, and write to be the ones making the records. Also unlike many ot...her mainstream artists Joe actually loves hip hop and is making music for real hip hop fans. The lyrics on the album are tight but what makes them exceptional is the thoaght and inteligence presented to the listener through the lyrics. Joe also got great tracks and production by some great producers. The guest apperances were all great as well but I would have rather seen Joe put on some of his fellow DITC members on the album. The presence of the Terror Squad was heavy so why were there no apperances by members of Joe's other crew? Instead of Puff Daddy he could have selected Big L, and instead of Nas he could have put A.G. or Lord Finessed on. Just a thoaght. Other than the lack of DITC this was without a doubt a hip hop classic. Read more Less

The third album from power-Bronx Latino rapper Fat Joe tones down his once-prevalent gangsta leans -- they're still there, though, from the album's title to rhythmic gunshot bursts guiding the cuts -- and builds up his hood and familial loyalties through a series of melodically enticing (and vaguely Wu-Tangish) songs. Like he did on Big Punisher's album from the same year, Capital Punishment, Fat Joe works Don Cartagena's slinky street beats into a semi-sublime hip-hopera that's more than a sum of its parts. Only the between-song skits (which are juvenile and mood-dropping) and the overloaded guest list (cameos from Puff Daddy, Nas, Big Punisher, Raekwon and The Terror Squad merely skim the surface of the overwhelming uselessness of this overplayed genre trend) wear down Don Cartagena's often mesmerizing and noble attempt at a late-'90s rap resuscitation.
