Dominion: A Prequel to the Exorcist (2005)

No Exorcist: the Beginning. Thank God.

Pros: More character-driven, intelligent then Exorcist: the Beginning, Stellan Skaarsgard

Cons: Weak Visual Effects, Clara Bellar, Slow Start

All right, who saw Exorcist: the Beginning? *Counts hands* Who was utterly disgusted by the level of gore, and not in a good way? *Counts about the same number of hands* That's what I thought. Hackmaster Renny Harlin's version was utter flami...ng crap. Absolute, 100% vile and putrid pigvomit. And yes, I'm holding back there. The original version, by Paul Schrader (who was fired after the rough cut was shown to the director, causing 90% of the film to be reshot and become the above mentioned pigvomit), is not perfect by any stretch. Clara Bellar is just bad as nurse Rachel, delivering her lines as if off of cue cards. The CGI (which was barely slapped together for the release) is laughable, and there is far too much slowness in the begnning. Once the film gets going, though, it's quite good, a character-driven supernatural film rather then a gore-driven "horror film." Worth the rental price. Read more Less
