Following in the footsteps carved by popular franchises like Digimon and Pokémon, Dokapon: Monster Hunter takes players to Dokkano Island, breeding ground for more than 150 monsters. Using a combat system based on rock-paper-scissors, the game offers 120 weapons and 50 shields (each with attack and speed ratings), which can be combined to create an even more powerful arsenal. Players can partner-up with any captured monster and take up to four with them on the adventure, keeping others at the "ranch" for future battles. Headquartered in the town of Poponga, the hero has access to Mayor Louie (advice), shopping (buying and selling weapons and shields), healing (church), a café, and more.

The island has eight stages with randomized maps for good replay value. While exploring, the hero discovers treasure chests, traps, stairs to different levels, and items such as antidotes, curse removers, Fizzade (recovery from fatigue), warps to home, and more. Traps include poison, curses, nitrous oxide, morphs, blackouts, fatigue, and land mines, all of which have possible remedies. With 29 weapon skills, 11 shield skills, and a half dozen unique tricks (e.g., TakeBack, Double D(efense)) to help build RPG stats in experience, attack, defense, speed, and hit points, gameplay is ever-changing.

Two players can compete via link cable in Dokapon: Monster Hunter using either Optimistic or Serious Modes. In the former, any property lost during battle to an opponent is returned before the end of the match, while the latter results in forfeiting lost material to the victor. In single-player games, saves occur automatically after losing battles or picking up items, though manual saves can be invoked at any time (except during battle). Up to 16 monsters can be corralled at the "ranch" at any given time, in addition to the four in the hero's party. ~ Michael L. House, All Game Guide

The review post by detroitska123(one of the person post at top of me) Anyway, I think this game have a good stroy line and u can alway cature new moster and create new weapor and armer. That is not all, like detroitska123 say. once u death u will los...t every u got. but this can be avoid it. Just turn off the power when u Hp to the zero. than u when u turn it on again. the stroy will start at the point before u battle or last time receviece a items or have find a trap on ground. so it will become easy now and than. Your a 11 yr old adventurer going to get a adventurers license.....which is the first mode....the rest of it......uhhh, didn't look. But anywho your an adventure man, you can cross breed your weapons to make the more powerful, along with shields. Cre...atures are just an extra to have to fight along with you. As far as i know, i'll check the booklet. there is only one part that totally sux ass.Once you die, you lose all items except your basic low level sword/shield. You can upgrade your weapons with +1 attributes as you battle, I had a gavel with 10 level ups, which had an attack of 15+10.... then i died and lost it, now i'm stuck with a sword with attack power of 3. The whole thing sux, cause the second you die, it saves the game. So if you save before the cave, and die, then reset the game by turning off power, when you continue, it continue's through your death animation.O ya, you also lose all your creatures you have with you unless you've put them back in the ranch, in other words, if you die, your screwed, and it doesn't make you wanna retry again. To catch enemies you set a trap, and it'll notify you when the trap releases and catches a monster, you then have to go to the trap and fight the monster, if you win, you get him. The monsters aren't random, you can see them on the screen. As far as i know, the head of the monster ranch, which is closed so i can't store monsters, gives you 1 trap to use. The only way to get another is through random item drops. There are spots you step on, sword=weapons, shield= armor, and the sacks=items. When you step on it, a item is shown, then it runs through like a lottery slot machine, you press a and it picks the item/weapon/shieldWhile innovative, if losing stuff is a problem, then defintely DO NOT get this game. I'm starting to regret the purchase, cause i just died and i lost my lvl 5 spore monster, my +15 shield, and +10 weapon. The thing that makes it worse, is the fact that the enemy can do bone crushing attacks, that literally kill you in 1 shot.
