    Joni fans, say goodbye to the folk music you once heard and loved. This is purely electronic, synth pop sounds with some sampling mixed in. I really love this side of Joni because she tackles a lot of subjects that have (and still) happened in our r...eality. On songs such as "Tax Free", "Dog Eat Dog", or "Ethiopia", you hear a lot of diatribe, but I don't feel she is trying to personally attack who she writes about. I think she is merely letting out her anger in a beautiful way, like other singers as Aimee Mann, Alanis.For those who are careful in listening to Joni, you may find the lyrics offensive to your taste, but I do strongly suggest you listen to this record! It's one of her best sound recordings she's ever done, and her voice sounds truly magnificent. Rock on, Joni!! Read more Less

    Joni Mitchell here turned to guests like Michael McDonald, Thomas Dolby, Don Henley, James Taylor, and Wayne Shorter, continuing to straddle the worlds of California folk/pop and fusion jazz. Musically, it worked, although as a lyricist, Mitchell again took off after abstractions (one song railed against "the three great stimulants of the exhausted ones/Artifice, brutality and innocence"), such that, even when you could figure out what she was talking about, you didn't care.
