    Squire for hire!

    This album is like lemon juiced in a paper burn... painful to begin with but you soon feel the pleasure. DIY is a poptastic, guitarplastic masterpeice. A must buy for any one who wants to learn how not to play a chord for 65 minutes. The band defina...tely work well together although i must admit it's nothing that special. The Roses we're something different, like curry and poppadoms, rhubarb and custard, breaking into heaven, past heaven and into somewhere just past the magic roundabout. Buy it for the melodic vocals, buy it for the simplistic yet fantastic guitar playing or just but it for a feast of all the things good in this world.. your choice! Read more Less

    Fab ! Fab ! Fab! Best album of 1997!!!!

    I personally, LOVE this album. I think Chris, the leading man, has an amazing voice,and its obvious that they are very talented, to come up with a debut album, of this good a quality!!!!! My favourite songs would have to be,"round the universe" and ..."hello", which really stand out to me. But who could forget the classic, "LOVE IS THE LAW" That will rock on for years to come Read more Less

    Come in Mr Squire...your time is up!

    Oh dear,this album is so so dissapointing.I'll try list the good points,well point!It features the man himself,John Squire,he is still the best guitarist around and is still one of the most intelligent song writers about.That's where it ends,this is... a very poor showing by someone of whom so much was expected.Ok,John Squire's guitar work is fantastic and I'd recommend that you buy it for that alone,but don't expect any lyrical genius because you will be utterly dissapointed!Some gems such as "a giant Squid stole my wife and kid" make you wonder where it all went wrong.How can a man who once wrote "Love Spreads her arms,wait there for the nails" go on to such drivel?I've heard it said that some of these songs were written whilst the Roses were still together,well I'd bet my life that Ian Brown would not be caught dead singing the embarresment that is Love Is The Law,no way would he go on about "strap on's" and "rum ols slappers".Neither would he have been trying to convince us how much he'd like to fly "round Jupiter in a hotwired police car".I am gutted,this all goes to prove what I expected all along..BROWN IS THE KINGDOM.     The come back of the baggy hero

    Do it yourself,is what Ian Brown said to John Squire when the guitarist left the stone roses. Squire now has his new band. With some new songs and also some written when with the roses. With stand out tracks like love is the law, blinded by the sun ...and love me and leave me, this album offers a cleaner more melodic answer to the over worked final roses album. But you can also here that squire is still the best modern guitarist in britain with his clean lines and the huge finaly to love is the law. There is still room for improvement but not bad for a rush job. Read more Less
