Developing a straightforward and blasting compound of alternative rock, garage, and punk, Division of Laura Lee is one of the premium acts within the fruitful Swedish rock scene. Apart from the comparisons with other Swede bands like the Hives, mostly due to their common citizenship, Division goes beyond the simple, inflamed, and catchy garage rock formula. By way of blending influences ranging from the Joy Division to the Stooges, the band brings up a delirious composite with higher traces on their artsy and engaging rocking melodies. Formed in 1997, the Division assembled four elements, all of them with previous band experiences. Per Stalberg (vocals, guitar), Jonas Gustavsson (bass), David Ojala (guitar), and Hakan Johansson (drums) personified the Division that only one year after forming put out their first record. The EP There Is a First Time for Everything, presented in 1998, displayed for the first time the quartet's superior disposition on bringing forth some original tunes for the alternative rock arena. The following year was dedicated to their first major live performances and they released of a series of singles and split-discs before the offering of At the Royal Club. In 2001, the band finally signed a recording contract with Burning Heart, a Swedish-based record label. Pretty Electric, their debut EP for the new imprint, sustained their on-growing recognition and opened the way for a touring season alongside labelmates the International Noise Conspiracy. After yet another relentless touring period in 2002, Division of Laura Lee presented Black City, their second album.
