Named after a machine used for excavation and trench-digging on construction sites, the roots-pop band Ditch Witch formed in Columbia, Missouri in 1991 with vocalist/guitarist Chris Gebhardt, guitarist Barry Hibdon, drummer Joel Trueblood and bassist/vocalist Craig Winn. Drawing on influences like Neil Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Replacements, the quartet issued a pair of independent-label singles, "If I Lose" and "Her Fall," both later collected on their 1994 debut Everywhere...
