The soundtrack to Tyler Perry's extremely successful film Diary of a Mad Black Woman is, fittingly, an allfemale affair, with songs that fall perfectly in line with the movie's subject matter. Perry and Dallas Austin were involved in the songwriting and production of much of the material, which only helps maintain a consistency that nearly every soundtrack for a major film lacks. So, unsurprisingly, it will really appeal to the same demographic that identifies most with the film's female characters. The younger contributors (India Arie, Monica, Tamia, Angie Stone) hold their own with the veterans (Cheryl Pepsii Riley, Natalie Cole, Patti Labelle). Anyone fatigued by contemporary RB radio will also find this disc to be a soothing getaway.
