Destiny Has No Favorites (2003)

This amusing feature film from Peruvian director Alvaro Velarde offers a loopy plot in which a bored housewife finds her house turned into the set of a soap opera. Ana (Monica Steuer) is the woman in question; bored by life, she is thrown into despair when her husband goes out of town and rents the house out to a film crew. But Ana becomes intrigued by the action as it plays out, and even ends up getting cast when it is mistakenly assumed that she is an actress. As her real life and her life in the soap opera gradually mesh into a hazy whole, Ana has trouble distinguishing between the two worlds, but must pull herself together for her husband's imminent return. A deliriously funny film, if Pedro Almodovar had directed SOAP DISH, DESTINY HAS NO FAVORITES would be the likely outcome.
