You get what you pay for. That is true when it comes to CD recorders. I bought my Denon CDR-W1500 last week, and so far it has performed to what Denon is famous for. First and foremost, reliable! absolutely no complains. Then Quality, never knew... HDCD feature can actually be that clearly obvious. The sound of HDCD is impacable, Even my older Marantz CD player (which I thought cannot be topped)cannot compare to the clarity and crispness of my Denon HDCD sound. You will also find out that some of your old CD tracks are actually has HDCD recording!? CD-->CDR Recording is as easy as it gets. Although so far I have not recorded from an external source. Again, the sound quality is something you will never get from JVC,Phillips, Pioneer or even Sony. So if you're thinking abut spending $300 on a recorder, spend a couple hundred more (I paid $500 including shipping)and listen to the incredible sound of Denon HDCD compatible CDR-W1500. Just as the CD player it is worth it's price, everything else is a bonus. Read more Less

Pros: Extremely good audio CD-Rs sound quality

Cons: Fussy menus, ease (or lack thereof) of use

Most importantly, sonically I've found better end results with the Denon than with burning audio CD-Rs on a computer, even with the best software packages and burners (Nero 6 + Plextor). Nowadays, music CD-Rs are almost as cheap as those designat...ed as computer media so the price differential is not as much as a concern as it used to be. Weaknesses are found in the operation of the unit; the user interface could use some serious re-engineering, though the most basic burning control functions are tolerable. The wireless remote is cheap and not to the same quality as the component itself. The unit rips/burns at a maximum speed of 2x. Composing mixed CD-R content on the unit is next to impossible; better to figure out a songlist on a PC or Mac, THEN take results to the Denon and then start burning. Some cd players (notably older Nakamichi car decks) may have problems with certain audio cd-r media (then again, they may have problems with ALL cd-r media, as well). Great value, as long as one prizes great cd-r sound quality. Read more Less
