Pros: Cheap
Cons: Cheap Made, Won't Last
We bought this computer for our daughter to take to college. After one year the mother board went out.
I think Dell has this laptop programed to break down after one year.
Pros: e
Cons: e
Well, I finaly got a Dell Inspiron 1000 with 256MB RAM and 2.2 Celeron Processor. I love this laptop. The video memory is 32MB. But it works just like other 64MB.
Only thing I don't like in my computer is the battery. It stays only one hour for full charge. But I don't have any problems with that. I can always plug it.
Mongolian Guy.
Pros: Cheap, nice screen size, dvd-cdrw
Cons: terrible, terrible battery life
Okay, I have owned many laptops, and I love Dell laptops. This laptop is great for what it is intended to do. Basic computing, which is not a bad thing. You find that it excels at word processing, web surfing, wireless connections, etc. Yet, it lacks with being any type of gaming machine. It will do well with playing dvd's, or burning CD's, but that's it. The screen has decent color, but the video performance is sub-par. College students, or general computer users will be happy with this laptop, but again, if you want to play games on this system, forget it.
This is a solid machine for everyday computing, but if you decide to purchase, consider upgrading the battery, or buying another one for travel purposes.
Pros: 2.2Ghz Processor, Large Screen and CDRW/DVD
Cons: No extended ports, battery life horrific
The Dell Insprion 1000 is a true budget laptop that will suffice for most basic uses (email, word processing, internet, printing, wireless connections, etc). Under the hood, you've got a 2.2ghz celeron processor that will leave some users wanting more.
My biggest attraction to the Dell Inspiron 1000 is its wireless capabilities (using an external wireless card) and extended memory option (256 standard, 512 max). The Inspiron 1000 performed moderately under normal conditions and would more than likely be an ideal laptop for those looking for a somewhat heavy portable unit that can handle day to day functions.
My biggest complaints are the battery life (very bad, using the nimh battery) and the lack of ports (firewire, ps2, serial). These, in conjuction with its weight, are issues the buyer must take into consideration before making this purchase.
If you look at the other line of Dell Notebooks, you will see a price jump. There's a good reason...this Budget laptop was aimed at the low end market and indeed serves its purpose well in that respect.
