    A Great PC Bundle

    Pros: Extremely Fast + Reliable

Cons: Should come with more software that's not trial versions and offer software bundles for a low price

I absolutely love this computer! I bought mine a little over a month ago. I needed to upgrade from my Intel Celeron 500MHz Hewlett Packard Pavilion. This computer has it all, well, except the software. I personally like how Gateway deals with the... software - they offer gaming, productivity, reference, etc bundles. But we're not really talking software here. I didn't purchase this exact model but I did purchase one very similar. Mine is a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, Windows XP Home Edition, 512MB RAM, 128MB DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card, 80GB Hard Drive, 16x DVD-ROM, 48x CD-RW Drive, a floppy drive, and even a 17" flat panel monitor. All for $1,200 (after my mail-in rebate of $100). I think that's a pretty good deal. You can't get much better than that. I compared prices with Hewlett Packard for a while, and Dell is only about $50-100 more, but in my opinion it's a better system. You get more for what you pay.If you're planning on buying this computer (or any computer in general), it's best that you buy a decent amount of memory. If you're just using your computer for word processing and simple tasks such as that, I'd recommend about 256MB RAM, but if you're going to be using larger applications or if you're a gamer, I'd recommend anywhere between 512MB to 1GB RAM. I went with the 512MB because I run a lot of applications at one time for graphic design. Along with my hard drive - I went with the roomy 80GB.If you're looking into buying a lot of games, then you're going to want to get at least 120GB hard drive space and look into getting a nice graphics card. Dell offers the 128MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 Graphics Card with TV-Out and DVI, but if you're just going to be the occasional gamer, then the GeForce FX 5200 will be just fine; it also comes with the TV-Out and DVI as well. Just make sure that you don't buy a computer with an integrated graphics card. They use memory from the main memory your computer uses and it'll slow your computer's performance down. Well, I hope my review helped you out in buying a computer from Dell somewhat....:-/ Read more Less

    Dell Dimension 4600

Dell combines a solid midrange PC with an attractive 17-inch LCD monitor and gives it an appealing price. The 17-inch Dell E171FP LCD that accompanied the Dimension 4600 is a good-looking, but no-frills display. Though it does tilt up and down a few degrees, it lacks other adjustment options--such as height or swivel--offered by more-expensive panels, such as Dell's 1703FP. LCDs typically look better when the signal passes through a digital input, but the E171FP's single analog connection performed well in our tests, displaying sharp text and nicely saturated colors in a photograph on screen. Dell matched its display with modest graphics: The 128MB NVidia GeForce FX 5200-based card is insufficient for high-end gaming, but fine for most other imaging applications. Read more
