    Best PDA

By rogelio  May 15, 2006 | 10 out of 10 found this Dell Axim X51v review helpful

Pros: Windows Mobile 5,intel 2700G with 16mb of ram video,256mb memory, cf and sd card slots wi-fi,bluetooth

Cons: windows mobile 5 has some issues, substantial learning curve, needs "tweaks" right out of the box

So far I have really enjoyed this little computer. Right out of the box I had to perform a "server trick" to keep ActiveSync from turning on all the time and basically wreaking havoc with the OS. I ended up installing a lot of SBSH software... like Pocketbreeze and PocketWeather which work great. I have not installed a program to close out features like Magic Button or VBar, as I can get along with the supplied Handy Switcher. I also installed Pocket Informant which is a fantastic PIM. I also bough Flex Wallet from the same company which allows you to store all you sensitive data (bank account numbers, passwords, etc) via 128-bit encryption. The Axim has performed flawlessly with all these programs. I definitely recommend this product if you are not afraid to get into the machine and mess around with the programming. Read more Less

    Beware

By karim  Dec 31, 2005 | 12 out of 16 found this Dell Axim X51v review helpful

    Pros: Games

Cons: married to microsoft, huge software issue, buggy

I bought this product on 12/7/2005. When I installed the setup software on my PC, the setup RECOMMENDED that I update from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2002. I thought, sure, if that makes the sync easier. After the "update", I logged into Outlo...ok 2002, and ALL my data was gone: contacts, calendar, journal entries, to-do list and email archives--5 years worth of data was gone. I am a CPA, this data is vital to me. When I went to on-line chat with a Dell Tech Support person, his or her English was terrible, and they informed me that 'sorry, you should have made a backup first'. I told them that the Setup never advised me of this, nor did it prompt me "Are you sure you want to do this", ie. are you sure you want to delete your data. I was furious. Fortunately, I back up my PC every week, but I had never restored from backup, let alone restore just one directory. The Alohoabob backup software worked seamlessly, otherwise this event would have been critical. Then I learned that Dell shipped me the Axim with an outdated ROM version. Therefore, before I could even use this thing I would need to upgrade the ROM, which, according to various forum entries, was not an easy task. So the whole thing went back.
