Pros: Portability, quality for the money, convenience
Cons: Freezes up every now and then (but that can be fixed), MusicMatch Portable Device Manager is awful
I'm not a tech-savvy person. I knew that I just wanted a way to cart all my music around without having to lug a CD carrier in my car. I also wasn't ready to shell out big bucks for an iPod. This baby does everything I want, and more. I have a 20G second generation model - my entire CD collection is on it, plus about 15 playlists of downloaded music, and I STILL have 14G of space left. And I have it all with me whenever I want - I just tuck it in my purse. It's sturdy, and some say it's bulky, but I don't mind that - I have the belt clip and the arm band, so it is very portable for me.
People have complained about the earbuds that come with the product. Like I said, I'm not tech-savvy, so the earbuds are fine with me. They do have a tendency to fall out of my ears on rare occasions, but I suppose that happens with all bud-like earphones, so it's not a big deal.
The DJ does freeze up from time to time. You'll be in the middle of a song, and suddenly it just stops. Not to worry. Keep a paper clip with you and reset the device by poking the paper clip through a tiny hole in the bottom, and all will be well. From research I've done on the Web, people don't find this to be a big deal - they just reset it and carry on.
I have found that the compatibility with Musicmatch software for this device is terrible. The portable device manager is very, very limited - it just allows you to add music, and that's it. I haven't even bothered trying Napster with this - thanks to help forums on the Web, I've found something much better. I heartily recommend Red Chair Software's Dudebox for managing the music on the Dell DJ (http:/

www.redchairsoftware.com/
dudebox/
). It treats your DJ as an additional computer drive, and allows you to transfer music from it to your computer and back again. It also allows you to create playlists MUCH, MUCH easier than trying to do it directly on the DJ (which I found highly frustrating). If you get the DJ, make sure you purchase Dudebox too.
Pros: MusicMatch PC software
Cons: Horrible quality
I got the screen of death saying "harddisk problem" after 1.5 years of very light use. Called the support line and was told the warranty of 1 year has already expired so I was basically SOL. Don't buy this unit!
Pros: great price, good quality
Cons: kinda big
I started out wanting and ipod, but i researched the dell dj and i was pleased. My friends were trying to convince me to get the ipod( probably only because it was popular and they'd heard of it, unlike the dj, which i hadnt heard much about) but i went with my gut and got the dj. Its wonderful!!! i love it and i dont know what id do without it! being a music lover it provides me with everything i need: cheaper price than the ipod, long battery life, portable, holds alot of songs (9,000 i think) easy to use and download music to, and so much more! i highly recommend this mp3 player over the ipod any day! though it freezes up from time to time all you have to do is press the restart button on the bottom and its good as new again, and its kind of big, but not too big, i love it, if your looking for an mp3 player get this one. i know its kind of old now, but it wont disappoint.
Pros: 3 died within 13 months
Cons: 3 died within 13 months
I loved my Dell DJ until the first one died with a bad operating system, then the refurbished replacement's headphone port broke, and now the 3rd unit(2nd refurbished) has a harddisk problem and I'm out of luck b/c I bought the original 13 months ago. I hear much better things from my Apple/Gateway friends.
Pros: Price
Cons: Lacks basic features
I just bought one of the Dell DJ 20's , an excellent buy for its money.....but dont go by the price tag, it lacks some of the very basic features and as I understand lacks any kind of software compatibility with music web sites...I am not talking free music but paid music sites being promoted by Dell themselves .....
Think twice before you fall into this trap from Dell......ak1966@hotmail.
com
Pros: storage and battery
Cons: sometimes takes a while to connect with pc
definitley a great player for the price. great alternative to ipod
Pros: None
Cons: NOne
My Dell DJ has been replaced at 3 times because it has frozed up. They replaced a warranty product with a refurbished product. Which is very unfair because I purchase a new product and it not my fault the product is no good. I recommend this product to no one.
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing
needs screen protector
Pros: design works with windows media easy to use
Cons: musicmatch so unrealable
dell dj 20.both my mom and dad have ipods and all they do is uninstill and reinstall there itunes program. I know both promgrams for the ipod and dell dj. the dell works best with musicmatch but i have found that musicmatch sucks. iam so glad that the dj works with media player. I have had a some promblems with my dj. i turned it on on day and it came up as hardware error.i called dell support and after waiting for 20 mins. I talked to someone.he said he would ship me a new player. and the next business day i had a new dj. and in an hour or 2 i had all my music back so it wasnt a big deal. the only other promblem i have is sometimes it freezes. but all u need is a paperclip or somethin and your fine. o and did i mention the price diffence @ least 50 bucks.and all my friends want a dj because they see how easy to use it is. If you want to waste your hard earned money on and ipod then get one. but i am saving my 50 bucks and spending on music downloads.
Pros: price
Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE!
This dell juke box makes me sick. It locks up it has no batterie life, you cant replace it, the music software sucks, the voice recorder is next to useless, the button setup stinks! The only good thing about this, is when i beat the thing off the computer table cause it has locked up for the 3rd time, the batterie holds a full charge for 5 hours now, and has lost all my music files! Thank goodness for the ipod...it is the savior of the high capacity music playing devices!!!! Dont buy this unless you want to complicate your life and have lots of headaches and 200 bucks down the toilet!
Pros: Cheap for 20GB, good product, easy to use Battery life
Cons: The unit is a little big.
I have had my 20GB Dell Jukebox for 9 months now and I love it. The price and the support of the Jukebox is excellent. The dell has met all of my expectations and I would recomend this to anyone looking to buy an MP3 player. The Battery life is outstanding and I love my dell. The new ones are even better since the size has been reduced. If you are considering an MP3 player then you should buy a dell, any size, 5, 20, or 30 GB!!!
Pros: The jukebox has tons of space to store music, many features i.e. easy to manuever your playlist, save a list of songs, and great battery life
Cons: Dell jukebox skips from time to time and it also locks sometimes so I have a paperclip taped on the side of the jukebox
The Jukebox is nice for the price and has many nice features. I would recommend it to others. It has tons of space to save music. It is easy to manuever and use. It has a cool blue backlit light. It has a nice sound because you can change sound from jazz --acoustic--classical, and others. The only few problems are it sometimes freezes up, but that can be corrected by inserting a paperclip inside the hole on the side, and it skips from song to song sometimes.
Pros: Its lightweight and portable
Cons: buttons are spaced out
great
Pros: 20 gb, easy to use/set-up, high quality, low price
Cons: Support isn't the best, but is still quite good
I just recently got my Dell Dj20 on sale for 210 dollars which is way less than I-Pods. All of my friends were trying to convince me to get an I-Pod and not the Dj20. First off I have a PC and not a Mac. Sure they have I-Tunes for PC, but my brother's girlfriend has an I-Pod and a PC, & she said that she was having tons of problems getting all of her music files from the Windows Media Player to the I-Tunes. I didn't want to have problems getting all of my 1200 songs on to my mp3 player. All I had to do for my Dj20 was add all of my media player library to the musicmatch library, and I was all set to put them on my mp3 player. It was the easiest thing to set-up that I have on my computer. The installation went super fast. All I had to do was send my songs to the player by dragging the playlist to the portable device manager(which is the easiest thing to use ever) and it started it adding all of my tracks. Plus right when I plugged the USB into my computer it brought up the musicmatch program. Even though it wanted a high-speed USB and I didn't have one it still didn't even take that long to add the songs, and it needed to charge any way. I didn't even need to use it that day because I had to work. The only problem I had with it was it froze up the first day I had it after about an hour straight of listening to it while I was skating. All I had to do was reset by putting a pin into the little hole on the bottom of it. Of course right when that happened my friend was like "See you should have gotten an I-Pod because they actually work." So what any form of electronics can have problems. I expected it. My computer freezes up all the time. It's life...deal with it!
