    Pros: LOTS LOTS LOTS

Cons: are there any? yeah, lyrics maybe...

From an unbiased standpoint, Definitely Maybe supports Noel's comment as to why they are the greatest band in the world. "Live Forever" re-enacts Beatles melodies, but Liam's vocals turn "Strawberry Fields Forever" into "God Saves the Queen". The Pistols' influence shines brightly on this album, but too brightly at times. Very sharp is Noel's artistry in songs like "Digsy's Diner". His pompous gin and tonic addiction is punk and brat in "Supersonic". "Cigs and Alcohol" has a cool riff, just the fact that T. Rex started it is a bit annoying, but again, nobody does it better than Oasis.

    Best debut ever

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 14, 2002

Live Forever and Supersonic are and always will be my favourite songs. Every time i hear them hey put a smile on my face. Even if Oasis do use certain musical influences in their sound (Beatles, T-Rex, Pistol, Roses) there arrangements are always original. This album did break the mould. It was the first serious effort by a British band since the Stone Roses in the 80's.
It's been 8 years since this masterpiece was released and it still sounds as fresh as ever.
I went to see their gig in finsbury park, London last week - unforgettable. As well as being a brilliant studio band they kick a*se live! Go and see them while you've got the chance!!!!

    Sounds nothing like the Beatles.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 11, 2002

Because of their repeated praise of The Beatles, Oasis were always accused of copying them. What? Open your ears. Elements maybe, but there are also elements of T Rex (Cigarettes and Alcohol), the Pistols (Bring It On Down) etc etc. All these things add up to Oasis. Oh yeah, one other essential ingredient...Liam's vocals. Listen up non-believers, whether you like him or not, he is a GREAT singer. He is a real singer who puts most other contempory vocalists (many of whom i respect and listen to) to shame. Their pared down arrangements allow the fury to shine through and at this time, this is EXACTLY what we, in the UK, were waitng for.
In my opinion this album is fantastic. Simple. It boils over with energy. The first time i heard the single Supersonic, i was blown away more than at any other time before. Obviously there are greater musicians in history. I am not claiming that Oasis are pioneers or anything of the sort (i am well aware that their lyrics could do with more work, especially Shakermaker), but in 1994 this was amazing and still is. Sometimes it's not about braving new musical frontiers, it's about chewing up the old ones and spitting them out again. You can feel the confidence and the swagger in every track. None more so than Columbia and Shakermaker (the latter must be one of the most brilliantly arrogant sounding songs around.)
Rock n Roll Star, Live Forever, Columbia, Supersonic and Slide Away are all classics, full stop. I have never heard a song like Rock n Roll Star before. The unashamed sentiments took me by surprise.
Oasis touched me in ways no other more musically studious bands could ever do.
They are (especially back in '94) the real thing and i will always love this album.

    The definition of Britpop

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 22, 2002

This album was the prediction for the world to know that one of Britain's most successful rock band was about to happen. It's raw and edgy sound doesnt have the commercialized pretentious feeling of (What's the story) morning glory, making it even more listenable believe it or not.

    Great!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 24, 2001

Raw, pure, organic. Oasis play their best or their worst but it is what they really are or were at the beginning.
Their success is no luck and they show it. They had talent and the music scene corroborated it by giving them a special place.
The public not always are stupid: their music is theirs even though the Beatles could have influenced them. Who has not got influences? The Beatles had so did Oasis. But what Oasis do is to put all the melodies and rythms they like and that influenced them into accordance.
Good band and excellent music. This first album is significant of what they would become.
Thank you Oasis for being there!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 16, 2001

This is one of those rare albums that you can say that every track is brilliant. I love columbia, live forever and supersonic. This is an album that you can buy with confidence. People don't write albums like this any more which is a shame. Many of these tracks feature on Familiar to millions album. They all sound great apart from the live forever performance.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 15, 2000

This is the true Oasis. The album mixes the blistering distorted guitars of Punk and the glorious melody of the Beatles, as well as a whole other host of rock influences. The result is one of the most perfect and exciting debut albums ever. Even if you have steered clear of the band in the past, get this album. You wont be dissapointed. Live Forever, Supersonic, Slide Away.. all all classics

    Absolutely Perfect

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 8, 2000

This album is a gorgeous crystallization of rock and roll, absolutely definitive of the romantic ideal of the form... Live Forever a perfect pop song of course in the Beatles mold, Cigarettes and Alcohol gritty and sneering like the stones (not to mention the T-Rex riff)...impressive lyrics throughout, on par with the beautiful morning glory album that followed, Noel Gallagher was a hell of a writer until he apparently fried his brain on coke (witness the inanities of the new album)...on of my all-time favorite albums--easily top ten.

What rock n'roll was meant to be.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 26, 2000

This album embodies everything rock n'roll. From start to finish, this album seamlessly blends sheer guitar crunch with the most incredibly catchy pop hooks. Every song on this album ranges from enjoyable to downright spectacular. Noel's songs bristle with attitude and hope while Liam's vocal nails the emotion. Not many bands get it right on the first try, but Oasis certainly did something special with this one.

    Definitely Rock 'n' Roll

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 30, 2000

To me this is the best Oasis album to date. All 11 songs on the album are classics. It contains all the essential elements to have a successful album: the songs, the energy, the spirit and the right time. Songs like Supersonic, Rock 'n' Roll Star, Live Forever and Cigarettes & Alcohol are absolute classics and are played live at almost every show. This album must have sold almost 8 million copies and will have the classic status forever to all Oasis fans.
