Deep Purple - Deepest Purple/Very Best Of (1980)

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 9, 2006

Pros: Every well known 70's Purple track in one place....

    Cons: Nothing....

A short Purple review on their best greatest hits release in their career. This is basically what real Purple was in the 1970's with the nucleus of Blackmore/Lord/Paice with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover on all of the tracks save 2, David Coverdale... and Glen Hughes are on the others. The collection takes the best songs from the breakthrough UK single "Black Night" in 1970 to Blackmore's last DP album in the 70's "Stormbringer" from '74 before he formed Rainbow. The collection shuns everything from the MKI lineup of Evans and Simper which was more of a Pop/Rock direction anyhow and the sole Mk IV album with Tommy Bolin. Summing it up....I believe this is the best CD to get for a new fan of DP...excellent introduction. Theres a newer updated version of this...but this is by far the best one...My first taste of the group and the inspiration for my MySpace site....with Blackmore's signature Fender Strat sparking away. Pro Reviews: Deepest Purple: The Very Best of Deep Purple

  • All Music Guide

This release will perfectly satisfy anyone wanting to discover Deep Purple without shelling out for the comprehensive, four CD box set. Deepest Purple has it all: undisputed classics ("Highway Star," Child in Time," "Space Truckin'," "Woman From Tokyo"); prime samples of the David Coverdale-fronted Mark III line-up ("Burn," "Stormbringer"); unreleased European singles ("Strange Kind of Woman," "Demon's Eye," "Black Night"); and, of course, the mother of all guitar riffs, "Smoke on the Water." A perfect summary of the band's '70s heyday.
