    This CD shows a different side of one of the best rock bands of ever. And it also has "Chronic town" inside!

    Clearing out the trunk

    Although not an official album with new material, it's still a great one to listen to, these "outtakes and b-sides compiled." And "a must" for every R.E.M. fan to have in their collection. And I go on record saying that as for outtakes, "Burning Down..." should have been included on RECKONING, or at least "Ages of You"("Burning Down" rewritten), they are both great songs and both fit the album perfectly.But, even with that, I still love everything on DEAD LETTER OFFICE, the first time I heard "Crazy," I fell in love with it, eventhough I couldn't understand a single word. That's when I first heard of Pylon, and knew I just had to hear the original, something told me they were a cool band. It took me a while, I found out that the band had disbanded, but I finally got my hands on a Pylon cd HITS, and let me tell you, R.E.M.'s version, eventhough I love it as well, it does not come close toPylon's original version. I recommend Pylon to every R.E.M. fan!I also heard of The Velvet Underground for the first time with R.E.M.'s covers of "Pale Blue Eyes," There She Goes Again," and "Femm Fatal." I liked those songs so much that when I came across a Velvet Underground cd, I bought it immediately.As a matter of fact, after listening to R.E.M.'s drunken, one verse version of "King of The Road," I fell for that song too and went out and bought a Roger Miller cassette. That song is now my one and only favorite country song.The album is signifigant for me because it spawned some wonderful, new music experiences for me.     This was my first REM album, and still I play it quite often. It's an interesting arrangement of "outtakes" and different arrangements which, I may warn you, only a true REM will love. The CD also includes the finest worksongs of college REM- the co...llection from their first tape called Chronic Town which includes great songs like "Gardening at Night" and "Wolves, Lower." This is quite a piece of history- the songs that caused a mumur in a music industry that lead to them being big later on. Read more Less

    As Peter Buck himself said, this is not an album to be taken too seriously. It is a lot of
    fun, and contains a few hidden gems. Overall, an interesting peek through R.E.M.’s
    back catalogue.

    This album is great! The versions of the songs of Lou Reed (Velvet Underground): There She Goes Again, Pale Blue Eyes and Femme Fatale are the most beautiful songs of this album (and of REM too). I recomend.
