Following the same trail to victory blazed by CounterStrike, Day of Defeat is a teamoriented firstperson shooter that began as a modification for the PC classic HalfLife. Designed exclusively for online multiplayer warfare, Day of Defeat emphasizes small, tactical battles in Europe during World War II.

The game's realistic approach sets it apart from many other firstperson shooters. Factors such as weapon recoil, the need to deploy some guns in order to use them effectively, and limited character stamina discourages players from attempting superhuman maneuvers common in more arcadestyled shooters, such as the Unreal and Quake games. Instead, virtual soldiers must play more conservatively and work together as a squad.

The earlier, communitydesigned version of Day of Defeat has been distributed for free by download, but it requires a retail version of HalfLife or CounterStrike to play.     I've been playing this game for 2.5 years and I still love it!! This game never gets old. The design team is always enhancing the game play and the realism is top notch. There are tons of custom maps to download and there's always a ton of... servers available to connect to. This game rocks!!! Read more Less
