Pros: zombies !!!!!!!!!!!! gore
Cons: not one .well it couldve been 2 more hrs long
where to start this is as good as it gets for zombie movies this is the 1 that got me hook'd on these kinda movies

The seminal classic of zombie film. This is the zombie equivalent of Citizen Kane or Casablance, it just doesn't get much better than this.
Every film that has come since in the genre of flesh eating corpses owes a huge debt to George Romero and this film in particular. A must see for anyone that enjoys horror.
It is also a great commentary on the consumer driven nature of our society. That facet of our lives hasn't changed much since the time this film was made, and the message still rings clear.

Pros: Some scares and fun
Cons: Poor acting
I first watched this movie on video about 20yrs ago and thought it was great. Having seen so many others I still think this is one of the better horror movies made in the 70's.
I think that zombies walking around eating people may not be for everyone, but what I like about the whole movie is seeing how the actors try to survive and finding a way out in the shopping mall. It is not fair compare the special effects in this with movies of today, but I still think that it was good enough at that time. There are quite a number of graphic scenes so better not watch it right after a heavy meal.

George A. Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead' comes back to life in this superb 4 disc set. I loved 'Night of the Living Dead' but 'Dawn of the Dead' always had a special appeal with the whole swipe about materialism with the whole Mall setting. The Awesome set has hours from the European version that you must see. There are also theatrical trailers, tv spots, poster & avdertsing gallery and audio commentaries from George Romero, Tom Savini and etc. If you are a fan of zombies or monster fan then this is a must have set for you. -Cookie Monster-

i thought it was great i would definatly buy it. Anyone that likes gore, blood and blowing things up should definatly see this movie. It is suposed to be a horror film but i am a serious movie buff i was laughing throught to whole thing.

Pros: Great macabre story
Cons: soundtrack could have been better
a classic film from this subgenre of horror films. Not as good as the 2004 version in the special effects department but this film has plenty of underlying messages and tones, something that was missing in the newer version. Over the top in the violence department{I don't believe this could be made in today's PC sensitive times] this film delivers in pure shock value alone.

I saw this movie for the first time when I was just eight years old with my grandparents who explained it to me as, "Not just some scary movie, but a piece of work to be thought over and over. You need to see that there are things in this world that are not as they seem, or will always turn out as planned. You never know when this could become 'a true story' or just another film favorite."
Watching the zombies for the first time on the big screen was an enlightening expirience which led me to create my own original and sometimes 'unbelievable' stories which have served as a constant reminder that no matter what happens, or does not happen, you must always ask youself, "What if..."Was this review helpful? The first DOTD was good,but it did not have alo of special effects the zombies in the first one was much slower,and there make up was just ok. I have not seen the new one,but I have seen the previews and this time around the special effects,the make up by the same person wo did the first make up,was 100% better, the acting of the zombies was more belivable,thses zombes looked like they could kick real but, they moved faster, The 2 revewrs from At The Baconly gave it 2 thumbs up,usualy they do not like scary,slasher movies, This is really not aslaser movie,but a gore feast.hereare some other zombie movies connect to DODT.

this is an incredible cult classic without parallel. the gore in this movie set forward the ability for others to be inventive. definitely worth the time to watch if only for horror progression history. and if you can hold back the giggles, it has a plot too.

This movie is the greatest. A person's dream combined with a sarcastic opinion of today's mentality. It's true...just go to your mall. Aside from none of them being hungry for flesh, they are all a bunch of zombies walking slowly around the mall. In a consumer age, this movie wins by a landslide.
I think the most important aspect is the psychotic perversion displayed by society when something unexplainable occurs. The entire world, aside from the 4 main characters, are all overcome by this dementia, a psychotic approach to overcoming the fear they all contain. Even the military scenes are a fantastic portrayal of how they take fun, and at the same time naive, into something so barbaric. The owner of the station is going nuts because the numbers and addresses for help are not on the screen because they are no longer functioning; just so he can get viewers!
How wonderfully portrayed can you get! Remember Sept. 11, non-stop news coverage. You can be assured that someone in there was selling TV spots for when they started showing commercials again.
This movie is phenomenal. Not just cause of the zombies, but because of the realistic portrayal of human nature that this movie presents. Plus, for those of you cool enough to have visited the Monroeville mall and marveled at the movie-maker intuition to make it appear so much larger than it really is (I took a dump in the JC Penny bathroom there! after riding on the elevator), you would really appreciate what Romero was able to do when he made the movie on such a low budget.
For you who think the effects suck, I guarantee you they could not have been any better with the money they had to work with. The effects person won an acadamy award later on for his work in another film (I think T2, but don't quote me on it).
This movie rules. Accept no substitutes.
Oh, and I shall be seeing the remake as soon as I can, but it looks like the Zombie's run at Mach 3, which just isn't that much fun. Also, with more characters, the character development that made the first one so good will be severely limited by time. I just got this in the mail today and just got done watching it. The picture and sound is great they really did do a great job but on the other side this dvd was a dispointment and it isn't the full Dawn of The Dead its the Theatrical Version witch that suck and for features what features it only has theatrical trailers, tv spots, poster & avdertsing gallery and also an audio commentary with George A. Romero, Tom Savini, Chirs Romero and Perry Martin also it shows you a picute of the comic and tells you little about it. I just hope they come out with another one better like the full version of Dawn of The Dead DVD and have more features.

This movie is good, the story, good characters also, the down point would be that it has the classic zombies, all slow-moving, and the make-up isn't that good, but besides that, the movie it's a must see. It takes place in a mall where a couple of persons barricade themselves, and well enjoy being there. I won't get into details, but hopefully the supposed remake will make it a better movie, since the story in this one is by far one of the best.

i liked this movie it is one of my favorites but i have to still go with Resident evil as my favorite. Because the plot was good but acting sucked. There some stuff i would have done diffrently.

The plot was good but the acting was terrible. And over 90% of the zombies were a not scary blue,LAME. But since I like the Dead trilogy, I will give this movie a repectible 3 out of five.
