Online gamers enter a realm of familiar fantasy adventure in Mythic Entertainment's Dark Age of Camelot, in which they are invited to assume the roles of heroes and villains in the style of classic Arthurian legends. As in the critically acclaimed Asheron's Call and the enduringly popular EverQuest, players design worthy characters to represent them as they enter a virtual 3D world ruled by swords and sorcery and populated by the avatars of hundreds of other gamers from around the world.

In addition to knights and knaves of King Arthur's Albion, players can also choose to become powerful Celt mystics of Hibernia or ruthless Viking warriors of Midgard. Each of these three realms offers a distinct flavor to its characters' history and motivations. Though a variety of class and skill combinations are available to characters from each of these three realms, the hero's homeland is an integral part of gameplay that will influence development throughout the course of the game.

The realms of Albion, Hibernia, and Midgard each have certain relics that are a source of great power and which need to be protected at all costs. This common goal defined by nationality adds a new aspect of strategy to persistent world online gaming. In choosing a home realm the player in effect joins a team, as countrymen are automatically allies and foreigners are instant enemies that may be attacked on sight. As players become more and more powerful, they may plot raids or even wage wars in the name of protecting their relics and capturing those of the enemy. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

This game is addicting and great!!!It provides hundreds and hundreds of playing hours. be many different classes of characte in different realms.each realm is an enemy to eachother.when you travel throughout the huge landscapes and collect items and ...experience you can attck other realms and try to take over forts and steal relics. The game always gets better because there are patches made all of the time. Every realm has different characters. This game is huge! There are thousands of gamers playing the game every day. go solo creatures or groups with others and go for more difficult creatures and get a lot of experience. gain some levels and then choose what you wish to become. for example, a magician can become an eldritch, an enchanter, or a mentalist. This is the best game ever!! BETTER THAN ANY CONSOLE GAME OR COMPUTER GAME!! Read more Less

Pros: Graphics and encounters. RvR is Great!

Cons: Time sink. Nothing anymore than it just NEVER ends.

Certainly Addicting. The End Game is RvR (Realm vs. Realm) That is the main goal. Interaction with other players is a must. To solo a character is like forever in a day to get anything accomplished. My experience was a good one but soon had to en...d due to the new Expansion, (ToA) Trials of Atlantis. A complete Time sink (ToA) and really put the Nail in the coffin for me. The New Frontiers package is coming out soon and may be fun, while it wont be too effective for the new players. In saying that, I meen it will take a SOLID Year of your time (minimum 6hrs a day) to get your character to a place that he/she can be of any use to the RvR or PvP aspect of the game. The PvE is certainly worth playing if that is your thing. But to Play for RvR or PvP it will take too much time to accomplish the goal. People like to be satisfied in short periods of time. DAoC will not provide you this satisfaction. It's player base is HUGE but IMO it's going down quickly due to the ammount of time it takes one person to take any character thru the PvE it needs in order to be of any competition in the RvR or PvP part of the game. Not fun. Read more Less
