In 2004, I got the DDW396W countertop dishwasher. It worked wonderfully, it cleaned dishes well, I didn't have to prewash them, etc. It was great. In 05/2007, the seal on the door window broke. I tried to order the part, but was told I had to ord...er the entire door assembly. That part stayed on backorder until Dec 2007. After several follow-up calls, Danby replaced the entire unit w/ the current version DDW496W. THIS UNIT IS A PIECE OF JUNK. It does not clean as well. I can tell that the force of the water is not as strong, and it only has one "cup" for detergent. The prior model had 2. Additionally, after the entire cylce, I open the unit, and the dishes are cold and still wet. There isn't enough heat to dry the dishes. Ironically, the unit's design--w/ window in door--is the same; that same seal will break, too; rendering the unit useless. Why re-design a newer version w/ the same problem? Bottom line: already said--PIECE OF JUNK. Shop around before selecting this unit. Finally, Danby's customer service is as bad as its DDW496W. When I called the 800 # to order the part for the original unit, I waited in a long cue on every occasion. When I emailed my thoughts on my new unit, all I got back was a canned response.
