A classic Japanese horror film about a village that lies near an ancient and restless spirit known as "Majin of the Mountain", DAIMAJIN is interesting variation on the giant monster concept that was literally taking over Japan in the 1960s. When a nefarious scofflaw murders the village leader in order to take his place, he becomes the object of Daimajin's wrath when the spirit is called upon by the slain leader's son. Majin, however, takes the form of a giant stone monster and doesn't seem to be too concerned with the plights of the humans that have called him out of his mountain, and soon begins demolishing the entire village. One of the many classic giant monster films that Japan produced during the '60s, the film was followed by two sequels.

    Daimajin is a classic,pure & simple.As a child,I would see it once & awile on "Creature Feature".I always loved it.The story,a kind Japanese over-lord is murdered & his children are forced to flee into the mountains by an evil war-lord.Ten years of ...forced labor on thevillage is all the slain over-lord's childrencan stand,the young lord & a companion try unsucessfully to kill the war-lord & are captured.The evil war-lord orders the giantstatue,which houses the spirt of Majin,to bedestroyed along with his prisoners.Majin awakens & ...well...you know.This movie alsohas the best soundtrack ever by Akira Ifukube(Godzilla)The special FX are the best Daiei(thefilm company that brought us the Gamera movies)ever used.I do prefer a dubbed film to subtitles though.I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
