Pro Reviews: Da Game Is to Be Sold Not to Be Told
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews As the Death Row ship was sinking, Snoop Dogg bailed, heading over to the new bastion of street cred, No Limit Records. Master P is a master marketer, and he knows how to reshape everyone on his roster into good No Limit soldiers. And that's precisely what Snoop Dogg is on Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told, his third album proper and first for No Limit. There are a few concessions to G-funk scattered throughout the record, primarily in the form of squealing synthesizers, but by and large, Beats by the Pound and P give Snoop a set of standard No Limit backing tracks and have him do the No Limit dance. But there's one crucial difference: unlike most of Master P's grunts, Snoop has style, miles and miles of style. His loose, languid delivery is positively enthralling. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |

Pros: Snoop Dogg can rap, still his voice in its prime, adds southern style for a nice touch
Cons: No Limit Soldiers everywhere, some god awful songs, lyrics very weak
After leaving death row and going with the No Limit label, snoop found a new home and somewhere he was at least appreciated. I think this album might have been a lot better if snoop ditched the gangsta hardcore style like he did later on, because with No Limit its totally unbelieveable and laughable sometimes. I mean can you see him patrolling the streets with Silkk the Shocker? As for the music, the beats are pretty decent and there are some classic songs on here including Still a G Thang, Hoes Money and Clout, and for the hype it generated Woof. Other songs that are good are Snoop World, Slow Down, Dont Let Go, Whatcha gon do, DP Gangsta, Doggs gonna getcha, Bout it and Rowdy. Most of the other songs suck pretty bad although a few have highlights. The main issue on here is the presence of No Limit soldiers who bring every song down. Silkk Tha Shocker cant rap and just talks as fast as he can to any tempo he decides to the detriment of the beat and mysitkal just screams out unintelligiable lyrics with his buddy fiend. Snoop really makes them look bad on here and saves most of the songs. I always feel like I am ready to skip the song and then snoop comes on at the end and saves it. Not a classic by any means but still some good music on here. Just hard to balance the good and bad so i give it an even ...
