Splendid soundz - especially martin Brew's Sand Steppin'. The final track is the biggest disappointment for its corniness.

This is the best Abstract Hip-Hop/Jazzy/Downbeat, Album. One of my favorites,
    a must have.

George Evelyn, one of the best production ears in trip-hop, came a bit late to the mix-album field (his volume in the series had actually been planned since 1995), but definitely came correct anyway. DJ Kicks spins through a raft of nu-school hip-hop (Aim, Blackalicious, Freddy Fresh, Syrup, Type), classic old-school producers from A Tribe Called Quest ("Award Tour") to Kenny Dope ("Get on Down," "Superkat"), and tosses in a few of his own NoW tracks to boot. Just as supremely chilled as the best Nightmares on Wax material.

Nightmares on Wax

The combined project of George Evelyn and Kevin Harper, Nightmares on Wax were one of the brightest spots on the post-rave British techno map of the early '90s. Although the group was later pared back to just Evelyn and a handful of contributors, N.O.W.'s debut album, A Word of Science, was -- along with early tracks by LFO, Tuff Little Unit, and Tricky Disco -- a cruci... Read more
