Combining elements of industrial, Kraut-rock and post-punk into a minimalist dance sound, Düsseldorf's DAF took their name from the phrase "Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, " a post-WWII slogan promoting German/American friendship. The group originally consisted of drummer/synth player Robert Gorl, vocalist Gabi Delgado (sometimes Delgado-Lopez), guitarist W. Spelmans, and bassist/keyboardist/saxophonist Chrislo Haas.
