    DWA-130 (rev.B)

    Pros: size

    Cons: does not work

After purchasing a new pc with Vista 64-bit pre-installed, the first thing I wanted to do is get an internet connection to download any updates for my other peripherals.

I bought the DWA-130 because it said on the box that it was CERTIFIED for Windows Vista. Although it didn't say which version of Vista, I bought it hoping that it would work.

After installation, it seemed to work okay. I immediately checked the D-LINK website for any updates to the firmware or software, and saw that on the D-LINK site, it states that the DWA-130 (rev.B) device that I have is Certified for the 64-bit version of Windows Vista, so I was glad, plus they had an updated version of the driver, so I downloaded it and installed it.

Bad move. After installing their "latest" driver for x64, the adapter stopped working. I rolled back to the old driver and left it as is. It regained operability again, and all was good.

Until I started noticing that the connection kept dropping, even while I was actively surfing the net! Connection with the device is intermittent. I can be online for 2 to 3 hours, or 2 to 3 minutes before the connection is dropped. I have 5 other access points connected to my router with absolutely no problems: 1 desktop running XP, 2 laptops running XP, a print server, and an IP phone. NONE of them have ever lost their connections.

At first I thought it was just Windows Vista, but now after reading other product reviews like the one here, I'm thinking it's more the adapter. The MS website lists certified and compatible devices. They list the DWA-130 as unknown for x64 version. I should have checked their site first, rather than relying on the product manufacturers label.

    Pros: Cost

    Cons: Technical Support, functionality

I got this as a present for x-mas and was so happy to actually be able to have a n wireless connection for ...five seconds. The d-link stops working often. Talking to customer service is more frustrating than anything else they dont care about helping you and will hang up on you if the feel like it. I was told the problem was with my router which I have had for one year and have had no issues before with any other wireless device and that I should contact the maker of the router and not them. I am at a loss as to what to do. Make sure you pay attention to the fact that the website says they dont give any refunds ever. Their website doesnt let you download any new drivers and all in all is a waste of time. AVOID AT ALL COST. go with a solid company who has better service. it'll be worth it

    Does what it's supposed to

    By Santa  Jan 20, 2008

Pros: 300MBPS Rocks. When it does work, it's great. Small and includes a usb extention cable, which is always nice for PC's with interference.

Cons: Still somewhat buggy. Make sure you get the latest drivers from the website, it helps

As one person said, the drivers arent digitally signed by MSoft. That doesnt mean crap, that just means they didnt pay MS to put a little logo on their driver. That just comes up because some people try to use open drivers and those can mess things up. The utility that came with it sucks, its hard to get it to turn back to using the Microsoft Zero Wireless config if you start using the utility instead. Overall its great, and its small and doesnt have any funky antennas sticking out. Just be sure to get the latest drivers from the site, 802.11N is still buggy at the moment.

    DWA-130 Wireless N USB Adapter

By Alan  Jan 5, 2008 | 1 out of 2 found this D-Link Wireless N USB Adapter DWA-130 review helpful

    Pros: None

    Cons: Would not work

Tried to load the provided software, but received Windows message saying device did not have Microsoft logo approval, and I might have a problem. I searched internet for similar problems and found unit had several different problems. I returned the unit.
