Pros: Good range...WiFi radio timer...indicator panel lights are bright and clear.
Cons: None
Finally someone thought of it(thanks D-Link!)...a WiFi timer! Now I can have the radio portion turned off at night!. Some of the better setup pages I've seen. Good range to my netbook all around the house. Hardware revision C, flashed to the 3.11NA firmware.
Pros: seems Well no coment
Cons: no easy instalation 2days still have not got new $1.000.00 wirless pc to hook up with it
JUST DONT WANT TO GET STARTED I COULD SAY A LOT BUT UNTILL I GET IT TO WORK OH AND WHAT IS THE BUTTON ON THE SIDE THAT BLINKS BLUE WHEN PUSHED ???????????????????????
Pros: Strong signal, no connectivity issues
Cons: None
I replaced my overpriced Netgear rangemax with this router and was happy I did. Better connectivity, easy to set up, works great. And it was less than half the price of the rangemax....with better range!
Also, tech support line had me on hold for 2 minutes. With Netgear, it was sometimes 20 minutes.
Pros: Speed, Range and Up time
Cons: none
In January 08, after 20+ years I moved from PCs to an imac (darkside). I was having problems with my Buffalo router and did not want to spend the money for a airport router $149. I found the 615 on sale for $49 and N standard to boot. No brainier. The setup was done in 30 mins. I just followed the d-link instructions on their web sight for the 615. It has been going ever since. The imac is unbelievable as well.
Pros: Low price
Cons: High speed
This router is NOT so easy to set up as promised. After days in installing (read manual, searched for help in internet) DIR-615 worked with Telewell EA-716 only without security features (WEP, WPA). Putting them on puts DIR-615 down. First appliance ever that I failed to install properly.
Pros: Didn't get to find any
Cons: Lousy support, other product have much more convenient installation
I bought the DIR 615 last week, hoping to easily set up a wireless network in our home.
The installation looked easy in the beginning, following the instructions took me to the point where a connection to my DSL modem would have to happen.
Long story short: didn't get it to work. Called the helpdesk. Got through quickly but was connected to someone probably on the other side of the globe. The communication was painful (had to repeat about 50% of the communication). THe guy made me change something manually that did not fix it, then refered me to my DSL provider.
I later found out that I should switch back some of the settings.
From there on the connectivity to the router was intermittent.
However, never got the wireless side to work, finally reached somebody on the helpdesk who seemed to be on this side of the globe, he told me to return the device because it was most likely broken.
Luckily, they didn't have that model anymore so I got a Netgear WGT624. It cost $10 more and only supports the G standard, but it is worth it! Absolutely painfree install, all the modem connectivity and setting happened automatically!
Pros: Easy to Set Up, Good Range, Strong Signal
Cons: Many deffective models are being sold
I live in a fraternity house with 46 other people. Everyone is spread out and the walls are thick so I need powerful routers that will allow me to reach everyone without spending a large amount of money. These little routers are letting me have 10-12 people on each router and providing great internet for every person on it. There easy to set up and the MAC filtering is working great to only let the people i want on each router. If you are looking to use N-Routers and want to stay in the G-price range then I would say GO FOR THIS one. It's worked great for me.
Pros: good web interface, detach antennae, performance is good
Cons: India tech support, firmware bugs, netmagic is garbage
If you use mac filtering (Advanced, Network Filter) to list mac addresses ALLOWED to connect, choose the setting to DENY. Allow and Deny are reversed. This is in Version 1.00 of the firmware. Went nuts figuring that one out. Even placed a call to tech support. When will these companies learn that outsourced tech support is absolutely horrible!?!?!?!
On install, it pretty much requires you to run the CD to get it working at first. Also requires WAN connection. This was a pain as I wanted to set it up before plugging it into my existing network. Once that garbage was done, and I was able to get into the web interface, things went much more smoothly. The web interface is pretty good and easy to figure out.
Also, using AES WPA2 was a pain with Windows Zero config utility. I had much better luck with the Broadcom wireless lan utility that I managed to D/L from HP's web site. Zero config worked okay with TKIP.
No idea on N performance as all my clients are G still, but G works well with good coverage throughout the house and into the yard.
Like the detachable antennae, which allowed me to use some high-gain antennae that I had around from previous WLAN experiments. This did help signal strength, but the default antennae were very good.
Manual looks okay and well written. Really didn't have to use it, but reviewed it for anything I missed fiddling around.
Call to tech support about the MAC filtering got me to India. Ugh! They couldn't figure it out. Led me through the usual stuff, reboot, power cycle, reload firmware, etc. I actually figured it our for myself as they were trying to tell me to return the product. It's really sad these days that companies would rather have a product returned than to figure out the issues and get them fixed.
If they'd lose the Netmagic garbage and correct the firmware, this would be a great product. I suspect the previous reviewers issues may have been related to some of the stuff that I just managed to work through.
This may be a harder product to use if you are not capable of some technical trouble-shooting. If you are decent with computers, good value for the $$, even with issues.
