Pros: 24 Hour Tech Support
Cons: Never did get the Router to work
Well, after two days of trying, more than an hour on the phone with tech support, downloading "firmware fixes" from the D-Link site, swapping it for an identical router at the retail store, and buying a new ethernet cable (just in case), I never did get this router to work with my system. What a HASSLE! It simply could not hold a stable connection. Tech support never was able to identify why. My guess is a compatibility problem with either the cable modem or the ethernet card. At anyrate, I returned it and got a Linksys and it works great.
It works like a charm. I have Cable connection and my own lan. More over i use the encreption. it is just great.
Good little router, I was very happy with performance, only thing I didn't like was if the computer that was hardwired to the router went into sleep mode, sometimes the wireless network would stall out
I am serious about this router. The signal strength is weak from 2 meter away. It doesn't even have any signal any further then 5 meters. i don't know how it says 100 meter indoor in the product..
We also have to reset every few hrs or days, its convenient overall but also a pain...
I was able to talk to D-Link support within 10 minutes on a Saturday night and they knew what protocol my DSL provider implements and helped me with setting the router up. It works very well with the D-Link wireless Card, but I noticed that if my phone [a 2.4 GHz cordless] is off the hook, it interferes with the wireless connection. Once the call is completed though, everything starts working as if nothing has happened. I will experiment with changing the channels on the phone and/or router.
Ability to configure the firewall is rudimentary but I have not compared with other routers. I am not using the firewall on the router, relying instead on Zone Alarm on the PCs.
Have to say this is an amazing product. Have this and the Air Plus. Set up was a bit confusing, but now net connection is easier than ever. Have SBC with their modem. No problems.
I have had the same problems. I have to reset the router every couple of hours or days. It just stops responding to arps. I have jumped through all kinds of hoops with the manufacturer so far they have only offered to replace the unit, which is the third one we have tried.
Oh yes, I used the latest rom.
signal strength is 50-60% from 3 feet away, 5% from next room. i mysteriously loose connection after a few days/weeks and have to reset router. does not work with wep. after a month and a half back and forth with tech support they tell me to return it to the store i bought it from because they won't take it back unless it is smoking or not working at all.
summary: big-time buyer's remorse!
