Biggest POS DVD player on the market

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 31, 2005 | 4 out of 5 found this CyberHome Entertainment CH-DVD300S review helpful

    Pros: None

    Cons: Everything

This APPEARS to be a feature rich, inexpensive DVD player.I bought mine for my wife so she could watch DVDs in the bedroom. I almost finished my home theater (BenQ front projector, 8' diagonal, Rotel preamp, Rotel amp, B&W speakers, ...) and am ...waiting on my Zenith DVB318 DVD player. So, I hooked up my wife's Cybercrap DVD player just to test the system. We watched LOtR and it was amazing! Great features on this little dvd player. Couldn't believe the deal we got. Maybe I'll wait on the Zenith! Then I tried to play a data disc. Amazing! I could view videos and pictures! Cool. Although, some of them didn't play and the dvd kind of hung up. Thought it was just a formatting issue or high compression issue. No problem. That's not what we bought this for anyway. Then we watched Star Wars II, hmmm. That's strange. It kind of stuttered. Oh well. Must have been a glitchy data stream. No problem. Wife left for a party. I decided to watch Sex and the City season 1 on dvd. Had to turn it off! It was so spastic it was unwatchable. So now I'm hoping it's not my $7000 theater setup. Try to watch Pearl Harbor. Unwatchable because of the stuttering. Rented Catwoman. Couldn't watch it! Put in data disk. Had to turn off...no, I mean UNPLUG player because it froze up so bad. BTW, we've only had the player for 2 weeks. So, I go to Sam's. Bought another one ($34). Decide if it works, I'll just return the first one. Right out of the box, Catwoman still sucking (and not in a good way). Again, hoping it's not my theater set up. Decide to go to a interlaced, composite signal on the bedroom tv...thinking it might be the component/dig audio issue. Nope. Still sucking. This dvd player is the biggest POS I could possibly imagine. Now I've got to go back to getting this Zenith (which, btw, does upscaling to 1080i over component with the old firmware...check it out!).DO NOT GET THIS DVD PLAYER. Read more Less

    Pros: plays home made dvds

    Cons: none

I love my cyberhome dvd player. I make my own dvds at home, and this player is one of the few that will play all of my dvds.

No sound after less than two weeks of owning!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 23, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this CyberHome Entertainment CH-DVD300S review helpful

    Pros: Inexpensive, cute

Cons: Out of nowhere the sound stopped working.

I had watched a movie earlier in the day, all was great, returned home from work and popped on my Friends DVD, and no sound. I fiddled with the connections, even tried a different cable...put in different DVD's, fooled around with the remote'...s mute and volume buttons, nothing. I powered it on and off, unplugged and replugged...no sound. My TV's sound is working fine, as is my VCR's, Gamecube, PS2, etc...all working just fine. I'm very upset. Yes it was cheap, but two weeks?! And of course it's Friday night so I can't get ahold of the stupid company until Monday. Don't buy it!!! Read more Less

Pros: price, plays any disc I put into it NTSC, PAL, VCD, SVCD, JPG, Audio CD, etc

    Cons: haven't found any yet

I needed a DVD player to play PAL & NTSC for all of the concerts I download from various P2P sites. It has played the factory pressed discs as well as those I made myself. It has played every region and pretty much any disc I've thrown at it. Thj...ere no thought to setting it up. I don't have a big sound system - a TV and a great stereo. It took longer to get behind my entertainment center than to connect. I don't see how anyone could have a problem unless their unit is simply broken. Read more Less

    Pros: small/features

    Cons: everything else

ok this is how horrible this dvd player is. i got mine free from a cruise line, and im still compelled to warn anyone planning on wasting there money. fresh out the box i got to watch 1 movie, and after that nothing. now it says its loading for about... 20 min. then no disk, then disk tray wont open.so i unpluged then pluged it back in, same thing. i had to take the damn thing apart just to get my dvd back. i got so frustrated with this thing i had to go "office space" on it. if you still plan on buying it, you might as well give your 40 dollars to a homeless guy, at least he'll get some use out of it. Horrible

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 31, 2006

    Pros: cheap

    Cons: doesn't last - don't buy it

this thing crapped out on me after a little over a year. Don't buy it. It locked my dvd inside and wouldn't open. Before that it would only read one out of 5 dvd's. Not worth the cheap price. I only paid $40 for it, but would happily take... that back if I could. Bad! don't buy it. Read more Less

    Pros: it was cheap

Cons: you get what you pay for

this thing was the nothing but problems since day 1. i thought it was my tv when the sound would just stop working but after reading the rest of the postings it's the dvd player. you can be in the middle of a movie and boom, no sound. then after ...a few months i would put a disc in and would get "bad disk" error message on the screen. the disc was new!!!!!. this dvd player is horrible. spend a few more bucks and get a good name brand that will stand behind their work. First one I bought- worked fine- second one- NOT.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 23, 2006

    Pros: Inexpensive.

    Cons: Inconsistent.

I purchased one of these about a year and a half ago and was really pleased with its performance. I was just using it in my bedroom, so it did the job I bought it for. I actually put it through a lot of use too. Well, it finally kicked and I figured ...I had worn it out since I used it almost every night for several hours for over a year. And since I only payed $30 or so, I didn't mind replacing it. Well, I picked up another one of these for $30 again, thinking I would get the same type of service out of it. Not this time. This is either an even cheaper player then what I bought a year or so ago, or I just got lucky with the player I had bought. I have had this two weeks and the sound stopped working. I went through all the troubleshooting procedures and it is definately the player. I also noticed some of the stuttering that some of the other reviewers wrote about. So, if you are really low on cash and/or don't want to use your credit card, you can give this a try- you may have an ok experience. But, be aware (or beware) that you tend to get what you pay for.
