Despite the recent death of the soul star, the fact that he made music as good as this means that both him and his music will live on forever. These eight tracks are a wonderful and inspirational blend of funk and soul, topped by the sweet soulful v...oice of Curtis himself, and his unique falsetto. His lyrics are also inspiring. He highlights the troubles of black life in racist 1970s America on "The Other Side of Town" and "We are the People Darker than Blue", new at the time considering that rap had barely been invented, and talks about the Book of Revelation on the opening track. All these lyrics are sung over sweeping strings and well crafted horn arrangements, similar to his soundtracks. There's also an 8'53" version of his best known song "Move On Up" which is worth the price of the album altogether. After listening to this album you can see why Curtis Mayfield is one of the most inspirational men of all time. Read more Less
