    Needs More Engineering

    Pros: Quality

    Cons: Main feature doesn't work well. Inferior flavor.

    While the product is well built, its main feature -- integral coffee grinder -- does not do a good job. While most of the ground coffee ends up in the filter basket, the average particle size is 5 to 20 times larger than that of coffee ground in a s...eparate grinder. As a result, about 33% more coffee is required to achieve the desired strength. Even with this extra amount of coffee, the flavor is substantially inferior to that of well ground coffee. The program feature is useful for automatically brewing at a set time with pre-ground coffee. This feature will not work, however, unless the grinder apparatus is installed, even though it is not used. Consequently setting up and cleaning up is more complicated and difficult that with a normal coffee maker. I'm sorry that I bought this thing. Read more Less

    Pros: easy to operate

    Cons: hate cleaning it up

    I love waking up to fresh brewed coffee. I think it does a wonederful job brewing for great taste

    Pros: Good exterior design

    Cons: Grinder basket is very difficult to remove to clean most of the time

    The coffee maker has many good features. It is attractive looking. The water filter is a great idea but I question how much good it does because of its small size. The big problem with our unit is the inability to remove the coffee grinder basket. Th...is is a daily requirement since often all of the beans do not grind and the basket has to be removed for cleaning. The basket sticks on the grinder drive mechanism which restricts the removal. In addition the basket gets gummed up as the steam from the brewing coffee gets into it.The coffee maker makes very hot coffee compared to other coffee makers we have purchased and the carafe does an excellent job retaining the heat. Bottom line is for $150.00 I feel as though I should have gotten a better designed and functional coffee maker. Read more Less

    Pros: Carafe keeps coffee--not warming plate; good coffee

    Cons: Cleaning.

    I got this as a gift 2 years ago, and I use it because I have it. Before that I was using a small coffee grinder and an inexpensive 4 cup Mr. Coffee. I've used other coffeemakers over the years--various drip styles, Farberware percolator, stoveto...p perc, Melitta. When I'm home on the weekend, I appreciate the carafe. It does a good job keeping the coffee at a good temperature. The coffee is good. The coffeemaker is attractive and works well. All in all, though, I don't think this is worth it. What I dislike most is that, unlike my grinder, the grinding basket has to be cleaned with every use. I agree with the review that said that it grinds the coffee too coarsely, too. It isn't a big problem, but I do use more coffee beans with this coffeemaker. Read more Less
