Great Grind & Brew Coffee Maker

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 30, 2009

Pros: Fresh grind in the AM, portable coffee pot

Cons: Noise grinder, big clean up between usage

I do love this coffee maker, it's perfect for me the only coffee drinker in the house. I can buy beans to store longer and grind fresh in the AM. The grinder is loud but so is the stand alone Cuisinart grinder I bought.

The built in grinder is not useful for repetitive serving during parties. The clean up in between use is a pain, so I bought a stand alone Cuisinart grinder for high volume work and just set the coffee maker to no grind for party use.

The thermo craft does work better then you would think.

Great coffe maker until it dies.Buy a Kitchen Aid

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 28, 2009

    Pros: thermal carafe,contemporary styling,excellent brew

    Cons: Can not be fixed

This may sound ticky-tacky,but for 169$ I would expect to get more than 3 yrs. of use.Went to get coffee maker ready for morning brew and when I went to push the program button I noticed the l.e.d. screen was blank.I tried all of the usual trouble shooting solutions but to no avail.I called Cuisinart and asked them if they could direct me to a service center. They asked for the model and serial# and then told me that they do not fix them but if it were to happen within a 32 yr period I would have gotten a new one.So bottom line I was told other than saving the thermal carafe the coffee maker is dead.I have a kitchen aid stand up mixer and have had it for 11 yrs.I thought the Cuisinart was of equal quality.I cleaned it regularly, inside and out.Changed filters, too. My next coffee maker will be a Kitchen Aid.

    Best Coffee ever!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 7, 2009

    Pros: carafe, taste

    Cons: none

I was reading through all the other reviews and the only complaint that seems to be unanimous is the necessity of cleaning the grinder everyday. What I do each night before I go to bed is rinse all of the parts and stick them in the dishwasher. The next morning, all is clean and ready to go. It takes utter laziness to think this outweighs the benefits of this coffee maker. I have had this machine for 2 years and love absolutely love to drink my fresh ground coffee everyday. I purchase Starbuck's beans (If you like your coffee strong as I do, there are several "bold" varieties). If this one happens to fail soon, it is still worth the money for me to purchase a new one. I wouldn't dare get something inferior to this machine after having used, and loved, it for so long.

    Worst Coffee Maker Ever!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009 | 0 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

    Pros: Appearance

    Cons: Everything Else...

My father-in-law gave this to me because he knows how much I love coffee and this stinks! After about 2 years, I tossed it in the garbage. Good riddance! I don't know why I didn't do it earlier. The carafe doesn't pour right; we always have to pour over the sink because of the design. Cuisinart sent us a remodeled lid design and that was barely better. The grinder is a pain. When doing the daily cleaning chore, I dropped it on my wood floor. It cracked. Real high quality, huh! Coffee was regularly all over my counter and floor which was a great way to start the work day and add a little stress to the household in the morning. I did buy the regular glass carafe lower end cuisinart model for 59.99 at Sam's and it is so much better than this one. Really hot coffee and the pot actually pours without dripping all over!

    Love my Cuisinart!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009

Pros: Great coffee, sleek all in one design

Cons: must clean & thoroughly dry parts daily

My mom had hers for nearly 6 years. She loved hers so much that she bought me one a year later. I've had mine now for 5 years and I love it. No problems. You do periodically need to run vinegar through it like any other coffeemaker to keep it running smooth but all in all it's great. I can understand people's complaints about the clean up of the grinder, etc. but an extra few minutes of clean up is definitely worth it. When this one poops out I will buy another one!

    Good Ideas / Poor Execution

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: Thermal Carafe & The Idea of Grind/Brew Combo

Cons: Poor Design of Filter Drawer & Isolation of Grinder

I agree with most of the comments already made. I love the thermal carafe, and initially loved the idea of putting away the separate grinder. Thankfully, nothing on my unit has failed in the 2 years I've had it, but one too many mornings finding the drawer popped open and spewed coffee and grounds all over the place has left me sour on the design. I think Cuisinart should issue a recall and offer a newly designed filter drawer becuase this is a real problem. You get liquid completely flooding the hot plate (definitely dangerous), and all the grout on my tile backsplash and tile floor has stained from the coffee spillage. It's absurd that the vibration of the grinder causes the drawer latch to release randomly the way it does. Complaints about cleaning the grinder are also right on the mark. The design lets all of the vapor get into the grinder, turning ground coffee that didn't fall into the basket into a mush. They should have isolated the grinder from the basket somehow to avoid this. A simple cup to transport the grounds to the basket or a little door that closes after grinding would work. Back to the drawing board Cuisinart, do it right and I'll buy another one when the time comes. Otherwise I'll be happy to go back to Braun, Krups and the others.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009

    Pros: auto-grider and timer

Cons: coffee doesn't taste very good

We received this as a present expecting great things. We ran it a few times with water then tried it with some coffee and were very dissappointed with the taste. I though it may have something to do with the coffee we were using, so we brewed a pot with our (free) gevalia coffee maker and, ahhh... delicious. The I though ok, maybe it just needs more time to break in, so we ran it a few more times with the same result. It certainly looks cool and does some neat things, but, overall, its all about the coffee. Maybe we just got a bad unit, but we're back using our gevalia coffee maker which we're happy with.

    A great coffeemaker

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: Freshly ground coffee; stays fresh & hot in caraffe

Cons: wish cuisinart made a larger version to make more coffee at once

I love this coffeemaker...I'm known by my friends as the maker of great coffee ;o) I fill it with coffee beans and filtered water at night before going to bed, programming it to start in the morning. There's nothing like freshly ground coffee beans, and the grinding sound serves as my alarm clock ;o)

I read one review complaining of it making a mess, and this did happen to me in the beginning, but it was purely user error. It's just a matter of putting the caraffe in place last, which allows it to click into place correctly. If it's put in place first and then the basket is closed, there is no seal and coffee leaks out onto the countertop.

Pros: Grinds and brews all in one.Perfect coffee every time!

Cons: A little extra effort to clean

This is my second coffeemaker of this type from Cuisinart. My first one lasted 4-1/2 years with no problems. And it was used DAILY. So naturally when I needed a new one, I went for the same thing.
Granted it takes a little more time to clean, but it's well worth it to me.

Pros: No hot plate to scorch the coffee, all in one process of grinding and brewing

Cons: Grinder motor lasted only a year and a half, Filter basket door comes open during brewing, Takes extra time to clean

We love the coffee this machine makes and the temperature. Even without preheating the pot we get coffee at the perfect temperature to drink. It needs to be cleaned thoroughly after each use, but that wasn't a problem to get the quality of the coffee we were getting. One problem we experienced were the filter basket door would occasionally pop open during brewing which put the entire pot worth of coffee on the countertop when we got up in the morning. The other problem was the grinder motor went out after a year or so. We still use the pot but use a separate grinder, which actually makes cleanup easier.

Pros: great taste, convenient w/ grinder , no hot plate

    Cons: none really

I've had this 1 1/2 years and absolutley love it. It makes a great cup of coffee, and after reading the other reviews, I wonder how people are cleaning theirs. I clean it everyday in less than 3 minutes! It is not messy and I love that there is no hot plate due to small children in the house. The thermal carafe keeps the cofee a drinkable temp for about 2 hours even if I don't pre rinse it with warm water as i like to use the timer. All pieces also are dishwasher safe for quicker clean up. I have bought as gifts and recipients still love theirs as well.

Pros: Stylish, built in grinder, thermal carafe and easy to use

Cons: Loud early in the morning

I am on my second cuisinart grind and brew. The first one lasted 3 years and the one I use now was purchased a year ago. It makes a great cup of coffee. I have no complaints. When I switched from the old standby Mr Coffee it was odd getting used to the extra steps but once I got the nack I never looked back. the one thing I would recommend isI always keep a spare water filter on hand because you can taste the difference when it needs to be changed. Usually I have to order those online.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: Great coffee, built in grinder

    Cons: Nothing major

I have had this coffee maker for 2 years and never had a problem. I use it at least 4 days a week. Yes, it is loud, but most coffee bean grinders are loud. Yes, you do have to clean it everyday if you use whole beans, but, you should clean all bean grinders after each use. Not hard to do, just rinse under faucet and dry. I have found that the easiest way to clean the entire system is to just lay it on its side next to the sink and rinse with the faucet sprayer. Again, not hard. Love mine and will replace it with another when it wears out.

    Worst coffee maker ever

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009

    Pros: Programmable, looks nice

Cons: Too many parts, bad design

We purchased this coffee maker about one year ago and have suffered with it until it finally starting leaking water out of the bottom, yay for us! I wrote to Cuisinart about it, the # of parts involved with this machine is ridiculous. Too many pieces to clean each time it's used -we used the grinder twice and went back to using a separate grinder because it was too much trouble to wash and dry the grinder assembly every day. I would not recommend this coffee pot for frequent coffee drinkers - too much hassle.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009

    Pros: Insulated carafe

    Cons: Built in Grinder

I really like the insulated carafe. It keeps coffee warm without overheating it and making it bitter. The grinder is very noisy and is a mess to clean up as mentioned in other reviews. I use a krupps grinder to avoid the mess. The timer works great, just remember to select grinder off when not using it. The grinder sounds like a plane taking off from your kitchen when it kicks on at 4:30 in the morning!

A Good Solution For Lack Of Counter Space

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009

    Pros: Grinder Built In

    Cons: Filter Door

If you lack in the counter space this is good for you. The grinder and the coffee maker are all in one! The clean up is standard, rinse after use and dry, a no brainer. But the filter door can be an issue. The filter doors open with the push of a button but to push it back into place is sometimes a challenge. Other than that this is a great maker. Yes, the temp is not as piping hot as other makers, but to me I like to be able to drink my coffee right away and not have to add ice cubes in order to cool it to the temp I need to be able to drink it. With that in mind, this was worth every penny.

    Great Cup of Joe!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009

    Pros: Makes Great Coffee!

Cons: Loud when grinding/lots of pieces to clean

I've read a couple of reviews regarding clean up, steam gunking up the chute etc. You should clean it daily or if you run short of time what I do is open the top then take off the grinder lid and let it dry out before using it again. This WILL dry up any moisture you have. I always wash carafe/basket/filter.
To me the extra effort is worth a good cup of coffee. I've not had any issues as far as parts not working properly. I am going on my THIRD year owning this machine and it as YET to fail mechanically. NO doubt I'll be buy the same one when the time comes.

Pros: Grinds and makes good coffee

    Cons: Door latch springs open

Everything good except you have to make sure the door latch is set before you turn it on. I do this by the punch/squeeze method Hit it from left and right side to make sure it wont pop open just before you hit the go button. The metal caraffe keeps the coffee warm all day we really like that.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009 | 0 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

    Pros: Appearance

    Cons: Ecerything else

Recieved this as a gift from our daughter for Christmas. It makes a HORRIBLE mess with the built in grinder, some of the coffee grounds stay in the chute and the steam rising from the brewing process soak those remains in the grinder and chute and make a sticky MESS. It becomes a dily cleaning CHORE and if you don't clean it everydy it plugs the chute and then you have a real MESS! We use a BUNN and were dismayed with how long it takes this coffee maker to produce a pot of coffee, to brew a pot with a BUNN you have coffee right now, no waiting for the water to heat. Daughter lost reciept so we sold it on ebay for $40.00 just to be rid of it. Stay away from this one.

    FANTASTIC Coffee

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009

    Pros: Quick and easy

    Cons: Filter door closes "hard"

I love fresh ground coffee and when a friend saw this coffee maker on TV he suggested I get one. I too used a separate grinder and usually ended up with more grounds on the floor or counter than in the filter making it less attractive to do so I usually did not. This coffee maker makes it so easy to make a really great cup of coffee. I have found the temp to be just right for me and yes, following the recommendations about tempering the carafe before running the machine works well. The filter basket door is a problem at times at it does not like to open without a little help and only closes when you push in the right place but once you get the hang of that, well worth the money. I have had mine for almost a year and a half and will purchase another one if and when this one stops working. It has saved me a ton of money as I used to stop at the major coffee stops for fresh ground coffee instead of messing around with my own grinder.

    Cons: does not last

Purchased just 3 years ago - pricey but figured with the name Cuisinart it would last. The entire bottom has rusted out - called the company and they will not replace. I have a coworker who bought the same unit two months after me and her grinder motor stopped working after a year. So love the coffee just think it should last for more than a few years.

    Pros: Looks nice

    Cons: M-E-S-S-Y

Although this coffee pot sports a great look & a very easy to use appearance, beware. I have read reviews, some love it, some, like us, wouldn't wish this on our worst enemy. We ran water through it to clean it out. No problem. Put coffee in the reusable basket & ran it expecting wonderful things based on the reputation of the company. Well, if your idea of wonderful is spending the next 30 minutes cleaning coffee off the countertop & out of every crevas of this maker, then this is the one for you! We gave it a 2nd & 3rd chance thinking it may be operator error. NOPE, still the mess. It is now back in the box & headed back for a refund. As with any product, some are good & others, well, let's leave that to your imagination.
