    Cuisinart Brew and Grind

By VickieC  May 2, 2006 | 10 out of 11 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: water filter, gold basket, thermal carafe, no heat plate

Cons: a little too many pieces

This is one of the best coffee makers that I have had. Enough so that I have bought 4 for gifts. The carafe keeps the coffee hot and fresh for about 2 hours when you follow the directions to prewarm the carafe. The filter is great - both the filtrat...ion and the gold basket are wonderful. Completely worth every penny for this coffee maker. Read more Less

    Very Good, Pro's outweigh Con's

Pros: Built in Grinder, Thermal Carafe, Styling, Automatic Features, Ease of Use

Cons: Some parts don't close as smoothly as they should.

We just purchased the Cuisinart DGB-600BC "Grind and Brew" Coffee Maker and are very satisfied with it. There have been many comments made about the temperature of the coffee and the clean-up. It is true the coffee is not as flesh scorching... hot as one would get from Starbucks, but it's sufficiently hot to see steam rising from your cup. Pre-warming the carafe, as stated in the instructions, is a must. I have been using whole beans for a decade now and used to use a separate grinder. This was a clumsy two-step process, which required a bit of clean-up to the grinder and the surrounding area. The grind and brew greatly simplifies the process and actually makes the overall clean-up easier. It took only a couple of minutes to rinse the grinding cup and mesh and dry with a paper towel. I do this after the coffee is made and it's ready for the next batch. I suspect that most of the criticism of the grinding clean-up is from folks who are new to grinding. My only minor critique has to do with how some of the parts open and close in the unit. I found that the filter door doesn't alway lock in place and I have to use more force that I should to close it. The same is true for the opening at the top, which provides access to the grinder and water chamber. This is very minor though. The grinder is loud, but most grinders are so that is the price you pay for better coffee. Overall I am very satisfied and would highly recommend it to others. Read more Less

    The coffee is week

By pesce  Jan 31, 2008 | 3 out of 3 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: grinder and coffee in on place saves space

    Cons: coffee is weak

Need to use 20 percent more coffee then I used in my Gevelia to get the same strength brew. With the price of the unit and now using 20 percent more coffee, this is quite an expensive morning brew.

    Cool Beans

    Pros: Very Good Coffee

Cons: Takes time to clean every day

I vary the strength of the brew by experimenting with the amount of beans I place in the grinder each morning relative to the amount of water I place into the tank. It is easy to clean under the water faucet and just let it dry.

    stainless w/ grinder

By ismo  Sep 15, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: has grinder, good carafe, timer, auto shut off

Cons: grinder stops working after time, twice replaced under warranty, leaking at base

Love the appearance, don't like that you can't see how much water is added from the outside of unit, as a short person it is hard to look "into" the reserve for amount of cups of water added. The unit lasts about 1 yr and then has p...roblems. For the cost it is frustrating but they do honor the warranty hassle free. Read more Less

    Grind & Brew & Clean & Clean...

By KarlaJane  Aug 13, 2008 | 3 out of 4 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

    Pros: Looks nice

    Cons: M-E-S-S-Y

Although this coffee pot sports a great look & a very easy to use appearance, beware. I have read reviews, some love it, some, like us, wouldn't wish this on our worst enemy. We ran water through it to clean it out. No problem. Put coffee in the ...reusable basket & ran it expecting wonderful things based on the reputation of the company. Well, if your idea of wonderful is spending the next 30 minutes cleaning coffee off the countertop & out of every crevas of this maker, then this is the one for you! We gave it a 2nd & 3rd chance thinking it may be operator error. NOPE, still the mess. It is now back in the box & headed back for a refund. As with any product, some are good & others, well, let's leave that to your imagination. Read more Less

    Good Ideas / Poor Execution

By Tornado Chaser  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: Thermal Carafe & The Idea of Grind/Brew Combo

Cons: Poor Design of Filter Drawer & Isolation of Grinder

I agree with most of the comments already made. I love the thermal carafe, and initially loved the idea of putting away the separate grinder. Thankfully, nothing on my unit has failed in the 2 years I've had it, but one too many mornings finding ...the drawer popped open and spewed coffee and grounds all over the place has left me sour on the design. I think Cuisinart should issue a recall and offer a newly designed filter drawer becuase this is a real problem. You get liquid completely flooding the hot plate (definitely dangerous), and all the grout on my tile backsplash and tile floor has stained from the coffee spillage. It's absurd that the vibration of the grinder causes the drawer latch to release randomly the way it does. Complaints about cleaning the grinder are also right on the mark. The design lets all of the vapor get into the grinder, turning ground coffee that didn't fall into the basket into a mush. They should have isolated the grinder from the basket somehow to avoid this. A simple cup to transport the grounds to the basket or a little door that closes after grinding would work. Back to the drawing board Cuisinart, do it right and I'll buy another one when the time comes. Otherwise I'll be happy to go back to Braun, Krups and the others. Read more Less

    A great coffeemaker

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: Freshly ground coffee; stays fresh & hot in caraffe

Cons: wish cuisinart made a larger version to make more coffee at once

I love this coffeemaker...I'm known by my friends as the maker of great coffee ;o) I fill it with coffee beans and filtered water at night before going to bed, programming it to start in the morning. There's nothing like freshly ground coffee... beans, and the grinding sound serves as my alarm clock ;o)I read one review complaining of it making a mess, and this did happen to me in the beginning, but it was purely user error. It's just a matter of putting the caraffe in place last, which allows it to click into place correctly. If it's put in place first and then the basket is closed, there is no seal and coffee leaks out onto the countertop. Read more Less

    By Mary W  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: Grinds and brews all in one.Perfect coffee every time!

Cons: A little extra effort to clean

This is my second coffeemaker of this type from Cuisinart. My first one lasted 4-1/2 years with no problems. And it was used DAILY. So naturally when I needed a new one, I went for the same thing. Granted it takes a little more time to clean, but it&...#39;s well worth it to me. Read more Less

Great as long as it lasts

By John  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review helpful

Pros: No hot plate to scorch the coffee, all in one process of grinding and brewing

Cons: Grinder motor lasted only a year and a half, Filter basket door comes open during brewing, Takes extra time to clean

We love the coffee this machine makes and the temperature. Even without preheating the pot we get coffee at the perfect temperature to drink. It needs to be cleaned thoroughly after each use, but that wasn't a problem to get the quality of the co...ffee we were getting. One problem we experienced were the filter basket door would occasionally pop open during brewing which put the entire pot worth of coffee on the countertop when we got up in the morning. The other problem was the grinder motor went out after a year or so. We still use the pot but use a separate grinder, which actually makes cleanup easier. Read more Less
