Pros: Hot coffee, No-Drip Carafe (it doesn't drip)
Cons: Hot coffee, No-Drip Carafe (it could break)
Wow is this coffee hot! My DH loves it because he uses liquid creamer which cools it down. I have to let my coffee sit and cool off, since I take mine just black.
We first bought one of these last spring for my folks since their coffee tasted like dirt. Now, their coffee tastes good -- amazing how a coffee pot can alter flavor! Guess there's more to it than just heating up water. Now we can drink coffee at my folks with a true smile.
Last week our coffee pot broke. It was a nice looking stainless steel Mr Coffee. We liked that coffee maker ok, but the coffee wasn't hot enough for DH. So here was our opportunity to get a new coffee pot for ourselves. We knew this was a good one from experience -- and we are glad to have our own pot now. It's been a week and we've made one or two pots a day. We're pleased.
We're both very tall (both over 6'), so filling the reservoir is easy. I think it would be tough for short people, unless their counters are lower. I love the no-drip carafe, though it feels like it would break if I accidently bump it against something since it's made of glass. I suppose I'm just used to the stainless steel carafe of our old pot. I do love seeing the quantity of coffee left in the carafe - can't do that with stainless steel of course. And I missed that!
We now use less coffee grinds for 12 cups than we did for 10 cups. We both like our coffee strong, typically we used 1 Tablespoon grinds/cup...but with this coffee pot it takes a little less...maybe 15% less or so.
All in all, I'm happy with this. We paid $75 for it; wish it was cheaper but at least we knew the coffee would be good.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Made poorly
Steer clear of the Cuisinart if you want reliability. My coffee maker started leaking after one year from the bottom of the appliance. I opened it up and what do I find? Cheap plastic lines connected directly to the heating element, one of which had melted. The Coffee maker is roughly 3 times as expensive as a comparable Mr. Coffee, even on sale, you would think they could put in good copper or stainless lines for that premium price. I will never purchase another Cuisinart anything!
Pros: makes wonderful coffee, appealing in any kitchen, works very well
Cons: have to replace charcoal filters
i have had my cuisinart at least 6 years and it has worked great, only recently it turns off mid way thru thru the brewing cycle, i just watch it and turn it back on so it finishes.
Pros: Hot, Long warmer
Cons: A little expensive
Keeps coffee hotter than most coffee pots. Given as a Christmas present to Mother-in-Law and the heating element burned out. She wants another for Christmas 09 and its on the way. Love the 4 hour warmer.
Pros: Lasted longer than any other one I've had
Cons: Had some malfunctions early on
My Cuisinart just died today :(. Luckily I had put by an old cheapo Mr. Coffee for just such a catastrophe. This coffepot lasted pretty much over a year which was absolutely stellar as pots go with me. The only thing that malfunctioned early on was the "Clean Light" which was on constantly until it burned out. I did clean it fairly regularly and changed the filter occasionally.
Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: Replaced paper filters with wire filter baskets from a different model.. Do not use inline charcoal filter. Found no taste difference.
I fill to top of water mark and get full cups of coffee then sometimes add 1-2 cups of water(after drinking as much), flip switch to on postion again and brew a few more cups to already made coffee. Went online to purchase new caraffe.
I rate my value low .. only because I paid top dollar for the first one(over $179.00) and only $49.00 for the second.
Pros: taste great
Cons: N/A
I have had mine for four or five years. It is wonderful in all aspects. This is the first coffee maker I haven't replaced after a year or so. It's not so hard to keep the outside clean...just wipe it down, it shines again. I love it.
Pros: carafe keeps coffee warm
Cons: carafe lid can leak, causing coffee to overflow
If you screw the carafe lid on `perfectly` and place the pot in `perfectly` you will not get coffee overflowing and streaming all over your floor. We put the coffeemaker in the sink, just in case this happens-and when it does-you will never forget it!(1 out of 100 times). Also window that shows how much water you've poured in is extremely hard to clean and subject to black filmy "crud".Do not clean the front of the machine with nothing more than water--the graphics have come off! But we know which buttons are for what. A decent machine with many quirks that can REALLY ruin your day!!!
Pros: Keeps coffee hot and easy to clean
Cons: Haven't found any faults after 6 years of using it.
I purchased my first 6 years ago. It's easy to clean and makes wonderful coffee. It keeps the coffee hot! I like it so much I decided to buy a second one for my 2nd home last week. The price continues going down and is a steal when it's below $100.00.
Pros: made very good coffee
Cons: cheep electronics
Made very good coffee for the first year, than the timer stopped working than all the switches. Could not even turn on manually. At that price I will never by another.
Pros: Delicious coffee, effective carafe
Cons: Sometimes overflows, Hard to add water
Cannot argue about the coffee-making abilities of this - makes tasty coffee, and the carafe keeps it nice and drinkably warm for hours.
However, adding water is a pain in the neck. The reservoir is not visible from the outside - you have to drag the thing to the edge of the counter and position your face above the top of it to see the water level. The 8 and 10 cup levels are fairly easy to see, the ones below that are not. Really bad design - the reservoir should be visible from the outside, like with a glass window. Also, the top of the carafe gets clogged with coffee ground residue periodically and catastrophically malfunctions without any warning, causing huge, messy coffee floods on your counter. And the machine takes up a lot of space.
So, great coffee but with some pain in the neck faults (could have been easily fixed by the manufacturer) that you can live with but still be annoyed at.
Pros: Good Coffee
Cons: Stopped working
You would think that for the price it would work for more than a year. Mine just stopped at around 9 months.
Pros: A good looking maker that has nice features.
Cons: Carafe breaks easily. Top doesn't close completely.
This is a coffee maker with an appealing design. It brews a good cup of coffee. A feature I particularly like is the ability to set the carafe warmer to three different temps. I prefer a low temp so that the coffee doesn't taste burned.
My two major complaints are 1) the carafe breaks easily and 2) the top doesn't close completely. I've broken three carafes simply by hitting them while I cleaned them. At first I blamed myself but others have told me they've had the same problem. But the thing that drives me crazy is that the top of the maker doesn't close tightly. It remains a couple of centimeters open. It spoils the clean design and seems to let out steam and give you less coffee. You need to compensate by adding a bit more water. Again, I thought perhaps this was unique to my maker but I've seen it with other Cusinarts as well.
Pros: gold filter and sneak a cup
Cons: filter
I have had my coffee maker for 4 years. We speant a little more on it at William-Sonoma. They have a life time warrenty on everything they sell. So when my coffee maker had one too many power surges hit it, they replaced it with a new one. No questions asked. I love waking up to my coffee already done and still hot. It brews quickly and a 14 cup feature is great!
Pros: Sleek Look, Hot Coffee, Delicious Brew
Cons: When you Open Top Lid, Condensation Drips Down Back of Machine
Love it! Just switched from a Melitta machine which I will never buy again.
Pros: Easy to use, good looks
Cons: none
I have had this coffee maker for three years without a problem. Always makes a great cup of coffee. I never had it overflow as mentioned in other reviews
Pros: auto shut off, programming
Cons: durability, quality
I was disappointed with the Cuisinart DCC 1200. The water reservoir is difficult to clean, the internal filter needs to be changed, and the pot does not pour nicely (consistantly spills will pouring.) Additionally, the lid of the coffee maker broke within the first week of owning this product. I have owned different brands in the past and will not purchase another Cuisinart.
Pros: Fast-Good footprint on counter
Cons: Lid is difficult to remove -(arthritis)
If I had realized this carafe didn't have flip top lid, I'd have chosen another coffeemaker. I've lost grip strength due to arthritis, cannot grab the knob on top. I resort to prying off the lid to clean carafe, etc. Otherwise, the machine is fast, has a signal, is programmable.
Pros: Very hot, 12 cup capacity, great coffee
Cons: glass carafe is easy to break
broke the carafe and replaced it with the stainless steel thermal carafe that is available. I couldn't be happier. I can turn the machine off as soon as it finishes brewing and the coffee stays hot for hours.
Pros: looks nice-brews good when new
Cons: unit leaks water after 1 year of use...it over flows also
don't buy cuisnart-we replaced this unit with the cuisinart 14 cup model---after 15 months-hot plate stopped working...i not buyin another cuisinart
