They finally are doing what they always wanted to do and the sound is intense. Heard the album last night on MTV. For those of you who are INCUBUS fans you know you gotta pick this up. For those who have only heard a few songs from them you also have to pick this up cause it is intense.

Pro Reviews: Crow Left Of The Murder [Limited Edition][w/Bonus CD]
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews At the beginning of their career, Incubus was rightly lumped in with the legions of postKorn altmetal/raprock bands swarming America in the latter days of the 20th century. But by their third album, 1999's Make Yourself, they had separated from the pack, as indicated by the presence of producer Scott Litt, bestknown for his work with REM. It signaled that the band was serious, and they began expanding their rapmetal template on that album and its followup, 2001's Morning View, completing their transition from juvenelia to maturity with 2003's A Crow Left of the Murder. Switching from Litt to producer Brendan O'Brien, a man who has been with Pearl Jam longer than any of their drummers, Incubus has opted for a clean, crisp yet heavy sound which allows them to aggressively switch from crunching metallic riffs to jazzy prog interludes. It's an expansive musical vision charged with some righteous anger; although vocalist Brendon Boyd doesn't write explicit protests, there sure are enough allusions to social turbulence to make this the first politically aware altmetal album in many a year. This maturation is even more evident in the music, how the band actually swings on "Zee Deveel," or how guitarist Michael Einzinger's jazzinfluenced solos seem both carefuly constructed and casually tossed off, or how Boyd's voice shifts from song to song (or during a song, as on the opening "Megalomaniac," which sounds like a bizarre blend of Mr. Mister's Richard Page and John Lydon). All this maturation does mean that Incubus may shed some older fans, since the naked ambitions on this record is far removed from the earnest, angstridden earlier records, but so be it A Crow Left of the Murder is far more interesting than any of their other records, or their peers. At times, they may stretch themselves a little too far here, but the ambition is admirable and the achievements are tangible, a real breakthrough for the band. [A Crow Left of the Murder was also released in a limitededition set with a bonus DVD containing a 26minute documentary featuring footage from the band's Lollapalooza and Bridge Benefit performances, and of the Boyd's injury.] - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |

Pros: Everything

This album is so amazing I dont even know where to begin....
The rumors have been circling amongst our priveleged few that have already heard the album, and the word was that this was one bizzarre, experimental, eclectic album....and Incubus hit the nail square on the head.
This is not your typical Incubus, don't expect any 'Morning View' material here, but what they have done is nothing short of a masterpiece. They have fully matured their sound, blending their rock, ska, hip-hop, reggae sounds as only they can, and now on this album, mixing in some electronica, 80's pop and grunge sounds, it's almost so diverse I wouldnt know anyone who wouldnt appreciate the work and quality of sound. My only hope is that they repeat this effort at some point in the future, because they've set the bar pretty damn high this time...but then again, I thought 'Morning View' was the perfect album...dammit, they just keep getting better!
MAJOR highlights of the album include (not that every track isn't great, which it is), 'Megalomaniac' (the addictive hit making the MTV circuit now), the title track 'Crow Left To The Murder', 'Beware! Criminal', 'Southern Girl', 'Pistola' (a semi-flattering tribute to Rush), 'Talk Shows on Mute', 'Made for TV Movie', and my personal favorite of the album, 'Here In My Room' which just left me with a slacked jaw the first time I heard it...it sounded like an old favorite that I've lived by and knew every word to, the sound is just beautiful..
If you're looking for new sounds, breaking the typical pop-radio fare and looking for something that is original, groundbreaking, and will soon be trendsetting, get this album before your friends are the ones telling you about it. Sadly, it has already been made available to those on the Internet with certain means; that said, I'm making sure I buy my retail copy to go along with my advance promo-copy to support the artist, because they actually deserve it, they made music, not capital-earning schlock. Treat yourself to some 'Murder' at Best Buy/Target/Circuit city on Tuesday for only $10, and you wont ever regret it, hell, you even get a free bonus CD that not even the bootleggers have yet :)
