Pros: 'Bluesey Swampy' rock playing at full force....

Cons: Nothing really....

CCR's debut in 1968....pretty much not like anything else at the time...some awesome blues covers and guitar playing/singing by John Fogerty as well as the rest of the guys...this cd really rocks and is "different"....

The cover "I Put a Spell on You" opens it up at full force and takes full advantage of the original track by 'Screaming' Jay Hawkins who done it originally...decent track..."The Working Man" is a tight little Fogerty penned tune...pretty sweet. "Suzie Q" is an extended 8 minute full force jam that really gels and never gets dull...best listened at this time limit and not the shortened 4 min one too. The Wilson Pickett cover "Ninety Nine and a Half (Wont do)"...is really cool...Fogerty pulls of some really great covers here from the blues era...sings it like he was born to.

"Get Down Woman" penned by Fogerty again is another self infused blues track...pretty cool. "Porterville" is next...another Fogerty written ditty is one of the better original tunes...good catchy song with good hooks..."Gloomy"
; is more of a swaggy type song that sways here and there in a sexual type tone, pretty decent track but average nontheless...reminds me of 'Fever'..."W
alking on the Water" closes off the album with the usual Fogerty swampy swayness of future recordings to come...all in all good stuff.

Summing it up...Pretty decent debut by the guys...good entry and very different for 1968...good things were to come too. RR
