    Damn good...

    By Ryan  Jul 8, 2002

..."Crash Into Me" like it or not, is one of the most perfectly constructed ballads, ever. The gems of the album (Lie in Our Graves, #41) prove that this band takes music making to a unique level. They are all craftsman of their talents...when they... jam together it rivals the misty shadows and echos the pasts of The Alman's and the Dead. I hope they continue on this path. If they do, they will trample their way into music history as innovators and musical genius'. Read more Less

    One of the best...

    By Patrick  Feb 28, 2002

I am constantly amazed with Dave Matthew's work, and this is certainly one of his top albums. Especially when compared to his two latest, but unbalanced (BTCS was dark, and Everyday was light), albums, this is a masterpiece. It includes increadible... jam sessions, such as So Much to Say and Tripping Billies, great love songs that fail to be cliche, and the quiet guitar pieces you've come to expect from Dave. What this album has that his latest albums tragically don't, is both a funky optimism and a certain, intangible depth. Overall, I love this song, track one to twelve, and I highly recommend it to all fans who loved Under the Table..., though I would warn new fans of Everyday that it isn't the same... more relaxed, more hip, and less formulatiac. Buy it, and enjoy. Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

Under the Table Dreaming, the Dave Matthews Band's first major label album, was their popular breakthrough, bringing their mildly eclectic sound to a mass audience. Although the group appeals to the same audience as Blues Traveler, Hootie the Blowfish, and the Spin Doctors, the Dave Matthews Band has more influences than their peers. Fusing together folk-rock, worldbeat, jazz, and pop, the band is arguably the most musically adept of all their contemporaries. However, they have trouble coming up with engaging hooks, as their third album, Crash, proves. Although the band continues to get better -- their musical cross-breeding is effortless and seamless -- they often don't have an attractive frame for their skills. Strangely, the lack of memorable melodies doesn't particularly hurt the album -- it actually emphasizes the band's instrumental talents. Nevertheless, since there's a lack of strong pop hooks, Crash is an album that will please fans, but not novices. - Stephen Thomas Erlewin...e, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Dave Matthews Band

The South African vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews formed the Dave Matthews Band in Virginia in the early '90s. Featuring Matthews, Stefan Lessard, Leroi Moore, Boyd Tinsley, and Carter Beauford, the group's music presents a more pop-oriented version of the Grateful Dead crossed with the worldbeat explorations of Paul Simon and Sting. The band built up a strong word-of-... Read more
