Country Washburne
His name might sound like a brand of guitar, but Country Washburne was really a City Slicker, as in the Spike Jones band. Born Joseph Washburne, he was a Texan who got into Houston-area jazz bands when he was still a teenager. He played tuba in the band of John "Peck" Kelly, frequently working the rough and rowdy dives of Galveston in the '20s. The Roaring '20s atmosphere in this once incredibly sleazy port can only be imagined, but it must have at least been slight preperation for the mayhem...
