    Megadeth at it's prime!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 24, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Countdown to Extinction review helpful

    Pros: A master piece

Cons: I wish more bands rocked like this

The album is great. The song S.Dest,Sweating Bullits, & Foreclosure is one of my favorites. The whole album thumps like a baptist preacher behind a podium. Get the cd if you love music!

    Pros: awesome

    Cons: none

This is megadeths best album by far. From the beginning Skin o my teeth all the way to ashes in your mouth this album does not have one mediocre track. i consider my self a tough metal critic and i just have to say this is one of the greatest metal a...lbums ever.the best tracks are the title track and high speed dirt, and Psychotron. Good Heavy Metal

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 23, 2003

    Pros: Great Lyrics

Cons: I have yet to find any.

Countdown to Extinction is the newest album in my collection and I have to say it was well worth adding. The guitar solos are awesome. I like both Metallica and Megadeth. Some Metallica fans have a bad reputation for ignoring Megadeth but I don't... think they should. Symphony of Destruction is one of the best songs I have heard. "The Earth starts to rumble" when you play it. Dave Mustaine is a great singer/
    songwriter/
musician who should be remembered in the history of heavy metal music.

    Good album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 2, 2002

Favorite tracks include Architecture of Aggression, Countdown To Extinction, Symphony of Destruction, and Ashes In Your Mouth. I thought Dave Mustaine did a good job writing the songs. Yes the songs are a little more commercial, but I still enjoyed t...his album nevertheless. This was my first Megadeth album; if you're just getting into Megadeth this wouldn't be a bad place to start. Hey, it's much better than most of the crap out there today. Read more Less

    almost perfect . . .

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 22, 2002

from the twisted tales of "Symphony'" to the lyrical ode to insanity of "my life'" and "bullets'" to the full on cybernetic mayhem of "psycotron", Dave sets out once again to prove "yeah, I can do that too" and proof is what he yields. Since my perso...nal take on this album changes from song to song whoever wants to go into deep discussion about 'countdown' can e-mail me. Read more Less

    NOT THEIR BEST

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 15, 2002

This really isn't the album you should be listening to if you're trying to get into Megadeth. Personally, I think next to Risk this is their worst. This was where Dave started to take himself a little too seriously, and instead of listening to Marty ...Friedman tell him to go for a more mainstream approach, he should have stuck to what he did best, which was making the fastest and angriest thrash metal music ever that could compete with Metallica. Sorry Dave, you can't compete if you don't stick to your roots and own sound.Anyway basically what I'm saying is, don't get this if you're trying to get into Megadeth's music, go for their first four albums (Killing Is My Business, Peace Sells, So Far So Good So What, Rust In Peace). Only get this if you're a hardcore Megadeth fan. Read more Less

    My Accolades....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 11, 2002

I don't know what to say about this album. They are nuthin like Metallica. Metallica is cooler. I just can't get into this. Maybe it's me. Maybe I am just the most worthless piece of pathetic trash this world has ever seen.

    Full Circle....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 19, 2002

With So Many Thoughtful And Insightful Reviews That I've Already Seen Prior To me Writing This One, It's Hard To Say Anything In Reference To Awarding Anymore Accolades To This Metal Masterpiece. They Say an Album Is Defined A Classic By The Longevit...y Of It's Popularity And The Effects That It Still Has On Its Contemparies Years Later. By My Estimation, Megadeth Came Full Circle. Even Though "Rust" Was A Conceptualy Amazing And Groundbreaking Effort That Gave Them That Mainstream Acclaim, "Countdown" Brought The Band's Musicial Talents And Musicianship To A Full Circumference. Where Earlier Albums Were A Little Distorted And Slightly Rampaging At Times (Musicallly Speaking), This Album Was Well-Crafted, Superbly Produced, And Constructed Flawlessly. No Wasted Notes Or Overplaying. No Cliched' Titles And No Ridiculous Matter. In All The Years We've Known To Love Dave For His Raging Energies And Creative Construction. We Love His "Kiss My Political Ass" Attitude Because He Stands For What Is Right. His Whining, Bratty, Wise-Ass, And Thoughtful Vocals And Lyrics Has Amassed A Devoted Following By Those Who Know What Metal Is Supposed To Sound Like And Stand For. We've Stood By Him Through The Good And Bad Times. This Album Like A Fellow Fan Stated So Well Is The Entire Complexion Of What The Band Is About Accross The Board. From Music To Dave's Multifacited Personality. This Isn't A Traditional "Thrash" Album And All, But The Music Is Just As Agressive And Powerful. From The Opening Crunch Of "Skin O'My Teeth" To The Thunderous Closer Of "Ashes In Your Mouth" The Band's Playing Styles Mesh Perfectly. Dave's Punk-Inspired Riffs And Leads, Marty's Technical Pyros On His String Slaughter, Nick's Jazzy And Rhythimic Drumming, And Junior's Thundering Pace-Keeping Bass. It's Like This Is The Record That Showed The Band At It's Very, Very Best. And The Doubled The Feat Because They Got WIDESPREAD Critical Acclaim Without Losing Their Hardcore Fans. They Just Totally Matured And Progressed With Their Sound. Always One Of The More Musically Talented Outfits To Ever Strap On The Instruments. The Sound Is Refined, Not Weakened, The Music Isn't As Crashing Loud, Yet Still Hard Rocking. All The Songs Are Unbelivable And There Are No Wasted Moments. Even If Some Compostions Don't Grab You The Instrumentals Alone Will Leave You Out Cold With The Complexity And Efficientness In Which It's Played. It's A No-Brainer To Get This. Listen And Enjoy. Peace To All My Fellow Dethheads.... Read more Less
