Pro Reviews: Cosmic Hug

  • All Music Guide

Guitarist Fareed Haque's Cosmic Hug is in many ways similar to the early'70s fusion of Miles Davis although without utilizing any horns. The electric piano of Dan Limmer is very reminiscent of the era, as is the exotic use of Kalyan Pathak's tabla. The music includes some fairly simple onechord grooves but also some accessible pieces that are much more complex than they sound. Haque's work on various guitars (which include an electric guitar, a steel string guitar, a classical guitar and a sitar guitar) is very fluent, sometimes heated and quite creative within the boundaries of this music. Fans of early fusion and of Haque's guitarwork will find much to enjoy on this creative and grooving set of original music.
