what a great album---and finally on domestic CD! This is a lively work of music, from funky tunes like "BIg BENG" and "the haunting "Last Time Forever" to King George Street's pop-rock observation of domestic "bliss" in London town. You've got to lo...ve the Calypso impression on "I wont ever go drinking again" I'm sure Glenn means it. ridiculous dave Read more Less

Pros: I Won't Ever Go Drinking Again, Heartbreaking World

Cons: didn't produce any classic songs ('though it should have)

This album didn't get near the respect it deserved. After a three-year hiatus, Squeeze returned in 1985 with their most even work to Won't Ever Go Drinking Again (?)" and "Heartbreaking World" are worth getting the album for; t...hen, however, you'll also stumble across "King George Street," "I Learnt How to Pray," and "By Your Side." This is the rare Squeeze album that has no filler, just good solid songs. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti

  • All Music Guide

Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti marked not only a re-formation of the band but also a reunion with Jools Holland. And while history and a dated production style hasn't been particularly kind to the album, it is not without its merits. True, it is marred by much of the overblown ambition that undercut Sweets From a Stranger and the Difford and Tilbrook album, but several of the songs -- especially the often overlooked "King George Street" -- are real gems in the classic Squeeze tradition, and the move toward "sophistication" is more fully realized and effective. A flawed but certainly worthwhile album, Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti deserves reassessment.

As one of the most traditional pop bands of the new wave, Squeeze provided one of the links between classic British guitar-pop and post-punk. Inspired heavily by the Beatles and the Kinks, Squeeze was the vehicle for the songwriting of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, who were hailed as the heirs to Lennon and McCartney's throne during their heyday in the early '80s.
