Distillers explode onto the scene with Coral Fang

Pros: The music is high energy, intense, and unique

Cons: No lyrics included in CD

The Destillers explode onto the scene with Coral Fang. It is their 3rd album, but their first mainstream release. Newly signed by Reprise/WB Records, they have taken their already outstanding energy and developed it beautifully. From the first song... "Drain the Blood" your are jarred awake by the vocal range of Brody Dalle, their singer and outstanding guitar work by herself and Tony Bradley. Ryan Sinn's bass is skillfully rendered (he was formerly a lead guitarist, all punctuated by great drum work by Andy Granelli. They combine the best aspects of alternative rock, punk and death metal/speed metal. She has explosive vocals and they back up every lyric with perfectly harmonious instrumentation. They come together as a group like a hurricane forms, with spiralling energy that carries throughout the album ending up with a primarily instrumental 12 minute jam session at the end called "Deathsex". In the body of the album you have the most keenly rendered and catchy song called "Hall of Mirrors" and a toned-down radio-friendly balladlike song called "The Hunger" that proves that even the intense hard-edged style they have is by no means the limit of their skill. Overall I found this album unique, exciting, and well-crafted. I give it top ranking.Mitch Lowenstein Read more Less

quite possible the worst music ever - in all ways

    Pros: good guitar riffs

Cons: terrible outlook and lyrics. Vocal melodies are bad too.

This CD is a great purchase for those people that hate themselves and everyone else. There is not one ray of hope throughout the CD. The music is not as bad as it could be. But, trust me; if you buy this you will only become even more unhappy and emp...ty inside. Read more Less

Biography

The Distillers

The hardcore punk outfit the Distillers first came together in late 1998 when Aussie native Brody Armstrong met bassist Kim Chi at work and realized their love for playing. Soon they hooked up with Detroit guitarist Rose Casper and drummer Matt for an angst-ridden rage familiar in the pioneers before them: Smith, the Plasmatics' Wendy O. Williams, and the Circle Jerks. ... Read more
