"One of the all time best sessions"

    By Byrd  May 14, 2007

Pros: Swings hard, great creativity, beautiful ballads.

    Cons: none

It is hard to believe that this album was recorded 34 years ago and that both Conte and Frank are no longer with us. I had the pleasure of meeting Conte Candoli and playing a tune off this album with him in the early 90's in Tulsa Oklahoma. One o...f the thrills of my life. Back to THIS recording. While this particular session is hard to find it remains one of the all best jazz recordings in the the history of jazz. No one plays trombone like Frank Rosolino. No one ever will. I could listen to Frank by himself for hours. The guy swings harder than any horn player I have ever heard. Conte came up playing in the time of Miles, Lee Morgan, Dizzy and Freddie Hubbard but yet found his own style. He has a fluidness about his playing that reminds you of a sax player. A beautiful sound. Both Frank and Conte play ballads that showcase thier warmth, sound and soul. I cannot give this recording enough stars. It has always been one of my favorites and it always will be. Good luck in getting to listen to it. Read more Less
