Also included is a book that samples the best of each decade.
Featured are the great New Yorker legends: Dorothy Parker, E.B. White, Brendan Gill, and Janet Flanner; illustrators such as Charles Addams, James Thurber, and William Steig; authors John O'Hara, J. D. Salinger, John Cheever, John Updike, and Alice Munro; critics A.J. Liebling, Pauline Kael, and John Lahr. Under its second editor, the distinguished William Shawn, the magazine became known as well for its nonfiction, publishing important articles that later became books, including John Hersey's HIROSHIMA, James Baldwin's THE FIRE NEXT TIME, and Truman Capote's IN COLD BLOOD.
