    Too slow to use

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 29, 2006

    Pros: Cheap

    Cons: Slow

You can go into a lot of detail about this tablet, but at the end of the day it comes down to speed.

It is too slow to use. Even navigating XP is painful. In this day and age we shouldn't need to put out computers without enough ommpf to run an OS.

I am convinced that HP realized the problems with the transmeta early on and quickly switched to the Pentium M for the next version. I suggest people look at that (TC1100 I think).

Great for some, not quite there for others

Pros: WEIGHT, SIZE, relative value, wow-factor

Cons: Slow, no CDRW/DVD, cramped keyboard

This product sets the standard for what a Tablet PC should be but makes us painfully aware of what a Tablet PC is not.

    First the bad:

A Tablet PC is not a desktop replacement. It is not a one stop information depository. At least not yet. Handwritten notes still have some value and most people will not be satisfied with a machine that cannot burn CDs or play DVDs. [Note: the docking station allows you to add a burner but it costs extra and obviously is not portable]

If you want to causally watch your company webcast, while doing writing a report in Word for which you are constantly referring to an Excel spreadsheet while playing some MP3s to drown out the boring moments of the webcast this is absolutely Not the machine for you. It simply doesn't have the horsepower to handle the multi-tasking many cube-jockeys but their machines through on a daily basis.

If you plan to write pages on pages and then seamlessly convert that written work into perfect ASCII then you are in for an unpleasant surprise. While it does an admirable job the handwriting conversion is not quite there yet.

    Now the good:
The machine is amazingly light weight. It snaps back form standby fast enough to jot down quick notes when stopped in the hall. It has enough battery strength to do on and off work for most of a work day.

The built-in Win Journal serves as an infinite legal pad which is great for those of us whose desks were cluttered with legal pads before the invention of the tablet.

The real killer app/feature though is using this machine with wireless internet. Wireless email and web surfing on a Tablet beats the pants off a Palm/Pocket PC and is almost as convenient.

Tablet PCs in general and the Compaq in particular still carry a significant wow-factor that is a conversation starter in a cafe or airport. The Compaq is sleeker than the competition and comes with a ingenious detachable keyboard.

In addition I found the TC1000 to be much cheaper than the competition, which average $2300+.

After using this product for Private Investigation Reports, I realized it will be a passing phase. These don't work well and leave a lot to be desired. In fact, now, for my Reports I run back to my office and utilize my SONY PC. This is a whole different world.

the only drawback (which relates to battery life) is the processor speed. Also, drives are not included with the original purchase so the actual price is significantly larger than the initial purchase expense.

Tablet PC - Finally, What I Really Need

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 5, 2003 | 9 out of 9 found this Compaq Tablet PC TC1000 (30 Gb Hard Drive) Laptop Computer review helpful

I have had a series of laptops (Compaq and IBM) and both the HP Jornada and the Compaq iPaq. This little jewel ROCKS! While it does not have onboard CD or DVD capability, it does combine your laptop, physical notepad, PDA and/or planner in one 3lb entity. For those of us who travel and transition from meetings to presentations to office to home, this is a lifesaver. The additional airport restrictions make small, portable and the fewer devises the better a must. A little slow but other advantages far outweigh this. Not for the heavy hitter but for the highly mobile.

    Nefty price for hefty features

I loved this over smaller 3In view iPaqs, and even notebooks. this gezmo has added another dimention to the way I conduct biz-ness, allday, everyday.
I usually work in office, and while: walking, driving, eating...etc. This piece allowed me to still work, but with elegance, style and without complexities of attached PC/Notebooks nor the bad-2-health PDAs.

I think it is was right for me.

And, I only wished it had more speed & an extra CD ( External) but for the light weight & long battery, I think it deserved my time writing this.
