    Excellent Debut

La Firma breaks into the self-invented "progressive norteño" genre with this cleverly produced debut. La Firma's lead singer Luis 'Louie' Padilla, who also composes most of the band's music, is at the top of his game demonstrating catchy, yet soulf...ul melodies; beautifully vivid lyrics; and enough 'sentimiento' (heart) to surely make one sing along.La Firma's other band members, including Aaron Martinez on the bajo quinto, Juan Cardenas on the accordion, Adrian Gonzalez on the drums, Rudy Wong on percussions, Mauro Muñoz on bass, and Alberto de Leon on keyboards, are equally formidable musicians. The melting pot of talent in the band is obvious thanks to the unpredictable mix of 'cumbias', 'rancheras', and ballads.Tight-beat cumbias like 'La Culpable', 'Pienso en Ti', and 'Mia' are accented by precise arrangements; and the melancholic rancheras 'Dejame Amarte' and 'Como una Estrella' make it clear that these guys from Monterrey, Mexico will be around for a long time.Overall, this production (while recorded, mixed, and produced in Monterrey on a low budget) raises the bar with class and genuine good taste.
