Synopis: Vic Morrow and Rick Jason return to the trenches as Sgt. Chip Sanders and Lt. Gil Hanley in season two of television's acclaimed World War II series. Told against the savage backdrop of European battlegrounds, COMBAT! follows a group of American soldiers as they face tough challenges and extremely daunting odds, with the men displaying bravery and loyalty to one another among the most trying situations. Helping to launch the careers of directors Robert Altman and Richard Donner, the 1960s series looks frankly at the moral struggles of American soldiers in a world ravaged by war. Season Two features special guest stars: Lee Marvin, Eddie Albert Richard Basehart, Nick Adams, James Coburn, Leonard Nimoy, James Caan, as well as others. Pros: Great action, acting, plots and extras - big-name guest stars
Cons: Filmed in B&W (but most fans think this is a Plus)
This 1-hour TV show from the early 60s focuses on life (and death) for a U.S. Army squad in WWII France.
The acting, directing, and story writing were all top notch! The characters and their interactions were *extremely* well developed and performed. No preachy political agenda - the only message was the 'senselessness of war'.
The special effects are off the chart - they used TONS of ammo blanks, explosives, and 'squibs' (Combat!'s AD Flowers later won an Oscar for the Special Effects in 'Tora Tora Tora'!).
Seasons 1-4 were shot in B&W, which gives the show a 'gritty sense of realism.' The catchy theme music from this series will jog alot of 40+-year-old memories! Be sure to get the entire Season_2 (two Nov 30th releases). ...
